Something to note is Colts and S&W revolvers have distinct designs, best examples being the S&W Model 3 or the Colt 45 as we see here. If one can find an image of Robert Ford with his revolver during him time with Jesse James or even not long after then one could determine the design of the Revolver and see if it has a S&W style or a Colt style. Some images show him with a Colt looking revolver, but it can be just as possible that Robert had a S&W at the time. We may never know, millions of Colts and S&W revolvers, but only one killed Jesse James.
