Rick saying “shop around then go back to the guy who offered you the most money,” just made me respect him a lot more. Everyone says these guys are constantly ripping people off but you gotta remember that no one’s forcing them to take the deal, they can walk away and sell it themselves at auction or whatever.

The show gives you a history lesson behind every item without going insane about historical facts, which is nice because it attracts more people to your channel. I know of people who aren't really history buffs but still watch the show because they think it's cool.

ANGELXOFX XDEATH Easy to say that when you're just watching it happen and it seems like rick is just being greedy. Honestly it's always about how much profit you can make, the more the better. If he can get the seller down in price then he will try every single time but there is a limit. Rarely but sometimes it happens to where the seller is asking too low of a price because they have no clue what they have and then rick offers them more than what they asked for it. So obviously he isn't just consumed and blinded by greed. If you were in his position i guarantee you would be trying to get as much money as humanly possible. I don't think you understand how many things they buy that they either haven't sold yet or lost money on.

+TheManWithGreenSocks You forget that they have to pay staff, pay rent, pay utilities, pay for stuff when items are found out to be stolen (which in their market, happens quite frequently; if the police find the items in there database, they have to confiscate it and return the item to its owner; absolutely NO money is returned and its a complete loss for the Pawn Shop). No one is forcing them to sell their items, if you don't want the business, the door is right behind them, and craigslist/ebay exists. So you're kind of naive and ignorant for not really thinking these things through and being objective in nature. Rationality is something that shows genuine intellect. Assumptions and emotion in contrast.

Essentially, be courteous. In other words; purchasing something for half the price gets you forcibly removed. Selling something for half it's value will get you an offer to reduce that by a further half, and a rude remark to boot. Be courteous. Bless papa Rick

When you make a deal with them, be firm at all times. Show no signs of weakness and be straight forward. Don't make statements like "$160?" or "How about X". It tips the pawnbroker off that you will accept the lower offer.

Now to answer your question about the difference about pawning and selling, the difference is if you sell you won't get the item back unless you buy it back from them. while pawning is they loan you money againts the item, you have 90 days to give them back the money they loaned you + interest then you get your item back

To all the people that are trying to say "I'll just offer twice want I want and then they will end up giving me what I want." You guys clearly don't realize that tactic is useless when the other guy knows how much the item is actually worth. In a pawn shop they are going to try to double their money on an item. That is the general goal when buying. So if they know what an item costs they are going to go for half that. If you are good at negotiating then maybe you will bring them up to 70% or so.
