First time I saw Mt. Rushmore, I was headed home to Arizona on leave from Minot AFB, ND with my wife and two children. We got there too late to see it lit up with the artificial lights, but no matter... it was brilliantly illuminated by the full moon. Absolutely spectacular! That was back in 1980, and I still recall it like it was yesterday.
