My grandfather's '65 Cherry Red Mustang is in my grandmother's garage. It runs beautiful and not a scratch. And she is not letting it go while she is alive, it reminds her of grandpa. I love that car (but so does the rest of the family, so I know I'm probably getting it)... Note, my grandfather (a WWII vet) was the original owner. When people say they don't make them like that anymore, there really is something sweet about some of the classic muscle cars. And the 1960's Mustangs will always be at a top spot.

The Mustang GT that Steve drove was an "S" Code car with a 390 Cu. In. engine, 4 speed trans, and a 3.25 axle ratio with no Limited Slip Diff (open rear axle, only right rear tire pushes. I am a certified car nut and was at the Mecum Auction in Florida when it sold for $3.7 Million including commisions. The car your looking at is pretty much a parts car that would require upwards of $100K to restore to concourse condition.

It's exactly the same in England when you see Cosworths for sale (today). You could pick them up back in the 90's for a couple of grand (£2000). Were they worth it? Absolutely, NO! They were thrashed , abused and just not worth the hassle. As for rot? If they went as fast as they rotted, their speed would be interplanetary. Mugs are paying fortunes for them now.

Of course this wasn't THE Bullitt Mustang. Two 68 Mustang GT Fastbacks were purchased for the movie, each with consecutive serial numbers 558 and 559. After filming 559 was sold off and passed through several owners, Steve McQueen tracked it down and tried to buy it in 77 but was refused, it went through extensive restoration in 2014 and was sold at Auction in 2020 for $3.7 million, the highest price for any car. 558 was heavily damaged during filming and was sent to a scrap yard where it was believed lost, but was found by a car buyer sitting in the backyard of a house in Los Cabos, Mexico, while working on fixing the car they noticed the ID Number and authenticated it as the actual lost second Bullitt, they're currently working on restoring it to its original condition

Without the chemical paint remover job and a few other unfortunate decisions it could have been something as rare and valuable as an unrestored original. For Ferraris they will scavenge complete working cars to get parts to keep the valuable models original, resulting in an unrestored 250 GTO being worth between $40 and 50 million. Restore it to a shiny condition and the price goes down to the low 20ies - yeah you expect more but there are no more cheaper 250s to scavenge parts from to put it back to original shape. I had a few unrestored originals myself and theres no way i would restore a classic car, youtuber commenters who never owned one dont understand how much you can appreciate a classic car that is all original, you gotta own one to believe it, its priceless and not only for purists. Remember that the car cannot be unrestored, thats why you often see these cheaper classics with the ad text "had a full restoration in 1998", which basically means original parts were replaced and new panels manufactured, and maybe even desecrated with "upgraded to modern standards". Again, cant undo it, the exact same will happen in 12-15 years to cars restored nowadays, its a piece of junk that somebody messed with and even the guy who restored it will say "who did this crappy work, they destroyed the car!". Once you looked at it from all angles the conclusion will be "Just dont do it".

A watched bullit in the late 90s and loved it. I wanted a fastback badly. I saved up my money and in March of 2000. I bought my 67 fastback 200cl 3 spd car. Now it has a 351w and a 5 spd. Kept it all these years. Never gonna sell it.

My first car was a 69 notchback Mustang with a 302 and restored it to pristine condition back in 1985, it was the fastest car around back in the day. Sold it when I had my first child, it broke my heart to give it up. I would buy it for that price in a heartbeat!!!

Rare that Rick pays the retail price. Must've been a purchase for himself.
@tommielee83 жыл бұрын
That was fair market value on a '68. Being 95% complete. The engine was not the original engine...only factory stock. The 1969 may have come with 428 cobra jet. 429 was another version. Also the coupe could be purchased with the 300 c.i.d. inline six or the 289 V8.

It wasn't a Bullitt Mustang, Rick had Danny Coker build a replica Bullitt Mustang but this isn't a Bullitt Mustang for one it didn't have the driving lights in the grill and all the GT markings were removed or painted over in flat black or primer

@@alexander1485 I think this one is a 68 but the engine the old man said was a 302, and both Bullitt Mustangs had the 390 as you stated. Rick did buy the car and Count's Kustoms did build Rick a replica of the Bullitt Mustang.
@gabrielaguilar13913 жыл бұрын
Bullitt had a 390 FE. 351 wasn't offered until 1969. This is just a GT. I used to have a 67 GTA fastback that came originally with the 390. When i acquired it, it had been swapped for a 351 Windsor. Beautiful car. I regret selling it.

@@Jd-ry4th No you can't. First, the VIN is not attached to the door. That's the dealer warranty tag. The VIN is on the passenger side of the dash. It matches up with the stamped VIN on the driver side inner fender. Neither the warranty tag nor the VIN plate will tell you whether it's a GT.
