A shilling was actually worth more than a loaf of bread in the 1600's. Bread would have been only a few pence. This was about a days pay for skilled labor. About $8 in today's money.

the problem with an auction house is the seller might have to wait many months, possibly even over a year before he can sell it. The other problem is an auction house will take a significant amount of the money from the sale, Ive heard of some auction houses that take as much as 33% which is insane. So what's really better: sell the coin now for $250,000 in cash, or wait a year to sell it for maybe $400,000 at an auction and only actually pocket about $268,000 after losing 33% of the sale to the auction house?
