There's an exosuit called the P.R.A.W.N (not a huge fan of the name, btw) in Subnautica. "Pressure-Reactive Waterproof Nanosuit." Supposedly a non-violent game, but that exosuit does a rather effective job on hostiles once it's equipped with the right mods.

comme ntor what I emanth was that is was too dark, and too little irony, if it was either happier or less dark it would work, and it is almost singlyabouty the line 'they won't sing about this pawn of war'. btw napalm sticks to kids, bit of a weird tune, for a marching song but yeah that was with what I meant irony (and yeah it's the wrong definition). the sense of dark humour... same with blood on the risers...

The Great War... the war to end all wars, the conflict that saw man and machine clash at a scale never before seen in our world. A time of unparalleled strife, of debauchery and reckless idiocy, but also of bravery and unbridled courage. Of lions taking to the mud and sand, as well as the sea and air... A war that ended nothing... but changed everything. This song is not just about Battlefield 1. It´s about all those "Pawns of War" who gave their lives on either side, who trudged through such a hellscape and sacrificed so much for such little gain. Thank you for this song, Gav... really appreciate it. Never Forget.

There was nothing beautiful or holy about WWI. The Nazis also had nothing to do with it, although their rise to power was in part due to the aftermath of WWI. This song is a tribute to the poor buggers who were sent to the frontlines to fight a brutal modern war on the behalf of their power-hungry empires, as well as a tribute to the futile and horrific nature of the war.

That's what happens when you have almost a hundred million people at war, with 8-10m dying. It would be ridiculous to remember every last one of them. The best we can do is write down their names, and learn from the mistakes of that war ''namely getting into it in the first place.'' so that we don't loose more people to pointless meat grinders.

You know, this could really use another verse between the second and the bridge, and I ended obsessing over it long enough that I wrote one. It's probably not up to your standard of quality, but it should fit the tone and the rhythm. The Baron's on my tail and I prepare to say goodbye, as we weave and duck and climb admist the vastness of the sky, What folly was it for me to believe that man should fly, They won't sing of this forsaken Pawn of War If you ever decide to do a rewrite of this song, please include a verse about the fighter pilots. There's a lot of untapped potential there.

Hoist the flags Hold the lines Lessons ever lost time Now we sing for you departed pawns of war My bonnie lays afar upon a lonely eiderdown While I dream of rats and tar within my burrow in the ground Infernal gaping scar of boiling mud and thundering sound They won't sing of this forsaken pawn of war Hoist the flags Hold the lines Lessons ever lost time Now we sing for you departed pawns of war The Baron's on my tail and I prepare to say goodbye As we weave and duck and climb amidst the vastness of the sky What folly was it for me to believe that man should fly They won't sing of this forsaken pawn of war Hoist the flags Hold the lines Lessons ever lost time Now we sing for you departed pawns of war Death on the dunes we feed the deserts Blood the empires on the sand... Hey Gav, another great song. I saw your posts on Twitter about self-doubt and how it affects workload, and wanted to throw in my thoughts. You can consider it almost inevitable that not everyone will like every song because you make a greater variety of music than any artist I know. If somebody doesn't like a certain genre, they probably won't like your songs in that genre. However, not releasing a song because you think some people might not like it is not the right approach in my opinion. If you hadn't released Fires Fade because some fans didn't like it, the hundreds of thousands of people who liked it enough to give it over a million views would never have heard it. One man's "bad song" is another man's "best song ever" so please don't be down on yourself and your work because SOME fans dislike some songs. Keep up the good work, Gav. We love your music!

People say economics and modern ideologies will prevent a future world war. That is what people believed almost a hundred years ago. As soon as it becomes logistically and technologically possible for a military force to coordinate and deliver attacks across the globe, world war isn't only an inevitability, it is the new type of war. Those economic ties and modern ideologies only give us more to defend, and more to form alliances around--which can only make world war more likely.

Kind of makes me think of Sabaton's "A Lifetime of War", both the english and swedish version in complement. The english version focuses on the endlessness and pointlessness of the war in question (the thirty year war in this case) while the swedish version focuses on the individual soldiers and their sense of meaninglessness. They may not be too familiar in style, perhaps, but they certainly are in subject matter.

Y'know, if it wasn't you, Gav, this could EASILY be a song that was used in the time period. Well done! You somehow captured the essence of how WWI actually was, without going completely dismal and depressing. Yet, you still managed to make it feel somewhat uplifting, as if this song could be used to raise morale, without glorifying the war. It works so well! You deserve FAR more attention than you currently have. Keep being awesome!

Hawkeye: War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse. Father Mulcahy: How do you figure, Hawkeye? Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell? Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe. Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander. -M*A*S*H I can only hope that someday, all of mankind learns this lesson. Because as long as one nation or one organization doesn't - war will be war, Hell will be Hell, and of the two, war will be worse.

"They won't sing of this forsaken pawn of war." Such a tragically true line. Millions of men and women who have fought and will continue to fight our freedom and rights go into battle and to their truth and yet their sacrifices will go unheard of and their names will never be known. Yet that didn't nor will it stop them from doing what is right. To anyone who has served thank you for your service.

Wow, Gav. I think you nailed it. From a sweeping, epic piece about the general tragedy of war, you broke it down to this extremely personal point of view. The voice you used there really gave the feeling of, like, a scared 17-year old Irish kid. I liked it. Taking it back into the big sound of the chorus really drove home that personal verse. I thought the change to and from the Arabian section was very smooth, though I'm not sure how I feel about the structure of that part itself. It felt like a nod to Lawrence of Arabia, though, which I liked. With the last repeat of the chorus, taking away everything but the drums and the penny whistle, it felt very personal again. I'd have liked to have heard just the lone voice of the soldier from the second verse then, but I still really enjoyed it. Well done.

I disagree, BF1 is pretty much the same as BF3 and BF4. The way Hardline turned out told me how much BF was likely to deviate from its basic formula. Can you imagine if they'd only given everyone bolt-action rifles and revolvers? What would that do to the way BF games are set up if the average rate of fire dropped from 500+/minute to 5-/minute? Overall, the song is far better than the game deserves.
@vojtaliska1430
@vojtaliska1430 7 жыл бұрын
Don't think so. As a game it features nothing really new or technologically advanced. As remembrance of history it's disgraceful to all fallen soldiers of the Great war. Within the game itself you can see not a single second of actual WW1. It's historically inaccurate and filed with social justice bulshit. Nobody asked for simulator of war, but this is way too far on the other side of the coin. Round and round it's another average game. If you want another BF reskin with minor tweaks, buy it, it can still be hell a lot of fun to play, if you want to learn something about history, well, look somewhere else.
@ZaLewdWarudo
@ZaLewdWarudo 7 жыл бұрын
Vojta Liška Well yeah, why the fuck would I be buying it to learn about history? If I want to do that I'll go watch my 24 episode BBC series on the Great War. It is a good BATTLEFIELD game, I couldn't care less if it is a proper representation of WW1, that isn't why I play Battlefield. I also own Verdun on steam, that is what I play when I want a somewhat more accurate representation.
@about37ninjas
@about37ninjas 7 жыл бұрын
MateiDark Perhaps you've forgotten already, but BF1 was being hyped up as a realistic shooter taking place in WWI. I was mildly curious if they'd make it a bigger and better version of Verdun. As it turns out, my suspicious side was correct and it was yet another BF# game that's fairly indistinguishable from the others. Overall, there's no objective reason to buy BF1 over BF4 or Hardline apart from the bulk of the player base shifting over like loyal little sheep.

Gavin i must say i almost never comment on any video, but after following you for over 1 year now (i think) i have to speak out that you make the greatest songs for video games on earth ! In nearly every song i have listened so far you take the very essence and the feeling of a game and create a masterpiece of a song (+video!). I often listen to the songs again and again, watching the video and reading all the lyrics, while sinking into the music. You really just nail it with your music, you understand what it's about.
