I don't think it's a scam. Currency collectors are serious about that kind of thing. Think about it, if you were collecting historical currency and had a lot of money on hand, would you pay $1500 for an imperfect bill for your collection or would you shell out $10k+ for the perfect display piece? And if you don't have that kind of money, chances are vintage currency collecting isn't your hobby anyway.

I also photograph coins and currency and sell them on ebay, once the bill has been folded it leaves a very distinctive line that will never go away and will always be visible! Go on ebay to currency auctions and look at the currency, if it has been folded or has been in circulation these lines are very noticeable! Not likely. In any haul of standard American coins that a Coinstar machine would accept you might get lucky and find a few that are worth a few bucks, but the odds on finding anything worth serious money is basically zero. There's an entire channel here on KZbin where the guy does exactly this -- he gets like $500 worth of random coins and then sifts through them one by one for unique or valuable examples. In a lot of 10,000 pennies he usually finds maybe two dozen interesting ones worth between $40-$50 in total.

Viewers who suspect a scam: A center fold of ANYYYYY kind immediately drops your bill from a 65ish grade to the 40 range on a scale of 1-70. It's a cruel thing because there are older bills than that that still look gem crisp and still have sharp corners, but they were lightly folded. Hence, the grade by PCGS/PMG looks totally incorrect until you look closer for the flaw listed on the holder. If you have HD telly, you can see the fold in the middle of that bill by the way. It just looks incredibly faint because the bill was flattened in that book for god knows how many years.

Just what I thought, Rick goes and calls the " expert ", says I got a guy here with a silver certificate dollar bill with Martha Washington on it, what's those going for? Expert says in mint condition up and over $20,000, how's it look, Rick says, like it was just printed, expert says, what's the seller asking,. Rick says, " $1,600.00. " Expert says, Buy it, I'll give you$10,000.00 " Rick says, "When you get here, say it's only worth$1,500.00, and I'll sell it to you after he's gone." Pawn Stars is nothing but a big ripoff, they'll cheat you out of every penny they can. So, people, if you think you have something valuable, see an expert yourself, actually 2or 3 experts, then you'll get a fair price, then put it in an auction, preferably Sotheby's.

Rick: So how much? Buddy : it can go up to $1500 And Hand oil included. Rick : i give you $1000 Owner : How about $1400? Rick : $1100 and i can deal with the oil. Guy: it is in very good shape, could be worth up to 20,000$, but there’s a little center fold so it’s worth 1500$. I bet that it was worth more than Rick bought it for. I’m pretty sure this guy got scammed lol
