Yeah, I was thinking what kind of a jackass thing to say to the guy. I don't know the guy's financial situation, but I would have just left telling Rick that was the last time I go to his store for any reason. You don't just shut people down with ultimatums like that. I guess with all the fame and fortune he has acquired, Rick has reached a point where he simply does not care and will say whatever he wants.

Sutirtha Misra actually they get cherry picked when they come in the store in real life none of the pawn stars are actually there. When something show worthy comes in they set them up with pawn stars to put it on the show. What you see is an actual deal going down however the people in the background are extras to put on the show to make it look like a normal day at the shop.

Yep, if you sold it at auction you could be paying 30% commission, plus if you set a reserve you will be paying a % of the reserve price up front, plus other fees. And you would have to wait weeks to get the money I'm guessing. But as a collector you probably would have had it graded before taking it somewhere to sell it. If he'd done that Rick would have offered him more as the risk would be less.

Rick took all the risk by buying before knowing the grade of the note. He paid $2,500 for it and then spent more money to send it off to be graded. There was a possibility that it would come back with a lower grade and he could have lost money in the transaction. He didn't lowball on the offer. He offered the amount that he was willing to risk. Had the customer walked in with the note already graded to be worth around $7,000 then Rick probably would have offered around $6,000

Lots of people on here talking about the seller getting scammed. If you don't find out what something is worth or do the initial work yourself (get it graded) than don't expect the top dollar. These guys are running a business. The seller just wants some cash. I don't know how much it costs to get something graded but am guessing is doesn't cost 2k (the amount more the guy might have gotten. The seller screwed himself not Rick.

So its ricks fault cause he gave a guy 2500 bucks for an ungraded 1000$ bill? He didn't even have it checked out. But lets say it came back and it really was fake do you think rick would call that guy back asking for the 2500 back? No that would not have happened.

You go to a pawnshop expecting to get a fraction of the value. It's the point of pawnshops, they pay less but you get money immediately instead of spending 2 years looking for buyer that will pay 'full price'.

2000 is loooow. The newest Friedberg paper money pricing catalog (industry standard pricing book for paper money) has a 7G-Chicago 1918 FRN in 20 NON-NET grade at $17,500 retail. That bill there graded 25 NET. Pricing should've begun at around 20Gs minus 40% (at most) due to its issues/repairs. NET means that 25 is a net grade of the bill minus any flaws outside of standard circulation wear. Bills that are repaired (examples: new edges, new corners, repaired tears, and closed pinholes) will get a NET grade instead of the plain numeric grade that the bill would've gotten had it merely been folded during the course of circulation (honest wear). However, that NET grade only should've dropped the retail price down by about 30-40% for a starting price according to Rick's own expert in another video (Pete Treglia). At a 40% discount, that bill's retail was still around 12Gs and after Rick's own 40% cut for overhead, that still would've amounted to around 7Gs for a smart seller, not 2Gs. In other words, that dude legitimately got taken for an extra 5 grand at absolute worst. NEVER take any coin or bill into a pawn shop lest it's graded by PCGS (paper and coins) or PMG(paper)/NGC(coins). This dude here had no idea what grade that bill was in and the retail price of said grade. Rick gave a dude 1G once for a 1934 $500 FRN in another video. Only getting 2Gs for that 1918 $1000 is the seller's fault. That bill is a lot rarer than a 1934 $500, no matter what condition. They're rarer even in 25 NET grade than a 1934 FRN is in 55 grade. The seller in this case even pointed out its condition, which actually isn't that bad for a 100 yr old bill of that denomination. That was also stupid because he didn't know it was a common grade for such a bill. You never point out flaws when you're trying to sell something. ABC -- always be closing.
