That is a great little mower. My dad purchased one like yours in a yard sale to mow around his almond trees. He was still driving that thing at 96 and sadly sold once again in an estate sale just a few years ago.

200 dollars seems a bargain :) I'm working for the muncipal and we're having older Toro and John Deere machines and they always makes me smile. For my work I'm using a converted John Deere 1515 (it has now a big steel brush to kill the weeds) and a few weeks ago I met someone in a much newer lawnmower from Japan. The first thing he said 'I wish that I had that 1515, yesterday mine was 3 times overheated'. Well it never happend with mine. Considering the fact that brushing the streets asks more power than mowing the lawn, it's pretty decent. Nothing beats some good old fashioned American quality :)

Paw paw my dad put a deck on an arm attached to his tractor. Looks like the ones that the state uses on the roads. He even raises it to cut limbs out of the trees lol. I can't believe you only paid 200$ for that. You can't hardly buy a push mower for that price now days. What a deal. Or steal lol.

Sweet find! If you really want to get after it trim off the front of the blade housing so it doesn't push down the brush before it cuts it. Or do like I did and find a cheap bush mower and hack off a piece of the front of the deck to expose the blade and it will cut the brush real well. Before all the safety people go nuts, yes it is dangerous and no I don't use it around other people.,

Yes. I bought this farm from an elderly couple that could no longer work the land and tend to it properly. There is no telling how long it has been since the fence has seen daylight.

Wow. Well with some persistence you'll add an acre or two. Haha!

On the opposite side of the pasture, I did the same thing by hand, cutting back cedar limbs that were hanging low and cutting out hedge bushes. I picked up a LOT of shaded area for my "toys" without encroaching onto the pasture.

For $200 you stole it. They made them from 1985 to 2005. 117 with the less than reliable Kohler KT17, but there was several variations of the KT17 up to one with a full pressure lube system which I think was spec 24324. Later 80’s Toro put a better Kohler 18hp in the model 118 then for a while they made both the 118 and 120. Toro for about 5-8 years dropped the Groundsmaster name and used Proline in the 90’s. I think they returned to using the name Groundsmaster before the end of production. The last ones sold had a retail price of $7,700 but most dealers would sell one for $7,200. One good option was the left and right brake kit which helped turning. The small deck was the 44”, bigger was the 52”. There also was a 48” deck which was originally a rear discharge but customers had trouble with grass caking all over the area around the engine. So Toro made a kit which was basically an apron for the underbelly of the mower to keep the grass clippings out. Toro changed that same 48” deck to a recycler and closed up the rear center of the deck. The 48” has two big long blades side by side and a tiny little blade in the front center. Getting blades for that 48” might be a challenge. That 48” deck also went on some commercial walk behind mowers but Toro discontinued it I think in the 90’s. The front tires on those are an oddball 18x6.5-8. The front wheels are much like 4 bolt trailer wheels and I bet you could find trailer wheels to fit the front of your mower. The rear tires should be a 13 inch tall but I forgot the exact size. I installed ag/lug type rear tires on mine so it steered better. For the winter of 2003/2004 I adapted a Warn ATV 54” blade to the front of my 117 and put 18x8-8 ag/lug tires on the front and plowed driveways. Sure was cold sitting on that thing after a cold front came through. One winter doing that was enough. I had a 16hp Vanguard then an 18hp Vanguard engines. I used some rectangular house duct work and made a cover over the intake screen for the Vanguard recoil so it would stop sucking grass clippings into it. I think I might still have it. I parted out both of my 117 Groundsmasters and still have a few misc parts. I might be using some of my parts for building pull type mowers. Snowblowers are hard to find but I have bought and flipped 4 of them. I have that bleeping Lyme disease and I’m slowing down.
