History nerd here! I’m not sure if it’s an actual game mechanic but using horses to plough was historically considered quite the upgrade from oxen as they were faster and could often carry heavier equipment (per horse that is, oxen used to be strapped into ploughs in pairs). I still love these two fluffy bovines though 😊

Fun fact, whole wheat flour is very nutritious, but it had to be stored in grain form and ground when needed since the nutritious bits spoil faster after it's ground into flour. However, grinding grain is a ton of work to do every day, so when we started processing grain in the industrial revolution to allow for longer flour storage, it'd process out most of the nutritious parts and then people started having a lot of nutrition deficits that needed filling from other sources. Yeah so bread used to be super nutritious until we cared more about having longer-lasting pre-ground flour.

I greatly enjoy your series. You might try micro managing more families over to the farm house during harvest/planting seasons. I typically reassign everyone over there and get it done as quickly as possible then just move them back to their normal jobs.

When you leave a field fallow it helps to till the soil, to aerate it and shifts the nutrients about so it’s more of an even spread

Planting… if the field is cleared before the end of September, the game will automatically start plowing because the new growing season hasn’t rotated the fields. They will plow the old field until October, then they will stop and start plowing the correct field.

Yes, between 12-16 hours of labor each day except on sunday to go to church is definately an easier life than the current 9 to 5 grind lol.
