How about PvP can have their own servers and the majority of us can get on with playing the game?

It will be a opt in system, so you can just avoid it and be good to go.

Small clans can't lose everything. I'm not understanding your concern on the potential to send clans back to the 'stone age'. You won't lose your gear in the heartlands. At least, there's almost no chance. Good gear will be harder to come by. That should always be the case. Players will learn how to mitigate loss by not wearing their best gear in areas where it is likely they can lose it. I think you underestimate people. I don't want a 'game-y' system implemented where you can't lose items on your hotbar, or you lose a 'X amount of random inventory'. It's not natural and makes little sense. If this small clan foregoes the heartlands and exclusively builds in the wildlands or other PvP areas, that will be their fault. Their choice. And that is the ONLY way they could be sent back to the 'stone age'. It's nonsensical. Small clans aren't going to go to war with massive PvP clans. They will be safe in the heartlands and that's where they will have to stay. This game will always be niche. Being afraid that it will be is silly, as the reality is that it will always be. This isn't WoW. It will never be. It won't have massive appeal to the casual player. Speaking of marriage.. GM's conducted the ceremony in Ultima Online. They made special rings with engravements for those players. They were blessed and couldn't be lost. With churches and religions, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a feature at some point in Pax Dei.

I have only ever really said, I don't want it to ever be a possibility to send smaller clans back to the stone age. It is going to be a fine line and balance to get the PvP system right. I think the devs are up to the task however. You say small clans can't lose everything. This is true right at this moment. I was referring to the future. I don't want it to ever become a thing where a big zerg can wipe out smaller clans. Knights, according to the information we have available, will have PvP enabled everywhere including the heartlands. I am not saying the game needs to cater to every single person, but the more people who can have fun in the game the better. It will help the games success and insure it gets developed well into the future. Without the casual players it will be very difficult to raise enough funds to ensure its a success. Also as a large community for Pax Dei, I want there to be something for everyone in the game so we can all have fun together! That sounds awesome about the marriage in Ultima Online! I hope we get that level of detail in Pax Dei. It would be cool if they had big community leaders be able to give out quests or special things for people in game as well.

@@InterSleuths PvP may be enabled for some people in the heartlands, but the developers have said that they don't want non-consensual PvP. So I still think your small clan is still safe, as long as they don't have a death wish. I agree with you though, I also don't want to see players losing everything without making a long list of terrible and misinformed decisions. Gold can also be used with religions as well. Tithes for instance. Taxing purposes. General currency. I'm interested to see if it's something else.. Cartography sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure if it's a great use of development time. That would be something that comes 5 years down the road.. and at that point, everyone already knows where everything is. Cartography as a mechanic would have to involve something other than a fog of war style map reveal with the ability to chart lands for other players. The internet is here to stay and it just seems like a system that wouldn't have the impact that you're hoping for. I was thinking about adding onto the crafting system in a way that allowed players to create items with custom enchantments and spells. For simplicities sake, I'll keep it basic. Armor crafters can make normal items. These are boring and will quickly flood markets and drive down prices. I thought of a solution that gives options to the players. This system would only work if we had enchantment and inscriptionist professions. Allow them to be able to craft exceptional and mastercraft items. Exceptional items will be much more rare to craft, will be slightly more powerful (IE +3 damage/+5 armor) )and they will add a 'slot' to the item where an enchanter can place a buff. IE +10 HP. A mastercraft item will be extremely rare to craft and would add a slot for enchantment and a slot for a spell. That item would be more powerful (IE +5 damage/+10 armor) and would go for a massive amount of gold on a market, as it would be both very rare and very customized. It would allow players to tailor their character build with specific armors, buffs and spells. And yes, it would be a nightmare to balance potentially. Enchanting is a pretty self explanatory profession. Inscription should introduce spell scrolls and runes to the game. I think it feels like a fun system.
