Ive been tapering off Paxil the past 6 months from 20 mgs and am now down to 5 and am in utter hell. Has anybody else done a slow wean like this and still feel awful?😩
@stephaniecody94522 жыл бұрын
I was put on 10mg in mid January 2022. I have gained over 30lbs and can't stop gaining. I have a history of an eating disorder and it's really bringing me back to that. So I decided to wean. I cut down to half a pill and the first day or two I felt pretty off and the adjusted fine. I then went down to 1/4 of a pill 2.5mg and the samething. I got cocky only after a few days and after a night of drinking decided I didn't need them anymore and flushed them. Things were ok for a few days then the full body zaps began. It also felt like my brain wasnt moving with my body and felt so dizzy. Its hard to explain it. I also was very emotional and aggravated easily. I cried in the middle of a Walmart and told my husband I need to get the prescription filled asap. So now I'm back to a half and starting over but slowly like I originally planned.

Hey Zak- I'm also tapering off paxil. This is my third attempt but my most successful, and I think it's mainly due to how slow I'm going. I'm 18 months in and am now down to 8mg/day. I started at 40mg/day. I got down to 10mg earlier this year and rested there for 6 months due to how shitty I felt. Slowly but surely I started to feel better and now I'm back to slowly tapering. I applaud your hard work over the past 6 months. This shit is not easy! But know that while withdrawal absolutely sucks, your body and CNS will heal, albeit slowly. Support with a low inflammation diet and avoid alcohol/drugs as much as possible. Try to cultivate confidence and motivation to keep your spirits high. I wish you all the best. It's a tough road but we've got this!!

@Tara Timeline Congrats on getting down to a low dose! If you're struggling, you can always pause at your current dosage and wait for symptoms to resolve. I took 6 months "off" from tapering for this exact reason. I'm now down to 5.5mg/day. Ive found that going slow has made this possible for me. It's so hard. Keep going.

Oh, it took me many years to go from 20mg to 5mg. In 6 months, it's very fast. Take a break for a while! Poor you! :P

I am 24 year old male on 25mg paroxetine. Paroxetine is one of the worst thing ever happened to me. I been taking it (25mg) roughly for 5 years, tried to stop Paroxetine many time by cutting dose in half and failed terribly with extreme withdrawals. The main reason I am writing this because I haven't totally seems to be recovered from my last attempt 2-3 months ago, when withdrawals got worse I got back to my my regular dose of 25mg but whenever I took any supplements, lemonade, stress or even masturbate my withdrawals seems to get worse. Brain zaps, nightmares, anger and irritation comes back. No one is taking about this. I will really appreciate any replay, just knowing someone other there going through the same as myself is enough for me. I want to add that all these years on Paroxetine my sex drive was extremely low but now it feels around normal level again, but when I do pleasure myself the withdrawals get super bad . I feels like the meds have stopped working. IDK Thanks.

Hey Yash, sorry to hear you've been suffering. Paxil withdrawal sucks. I'm 34M and I'm tapering off of paxil after 24 years of use. It's taken me 18 months to slowly go from 40mg/day to 8mg/day. My goal is to get completely off. Liquid paroxetine has made these small drops easier to measure. The general tapering advice seems to be 5-10% reductions in dose no faster than every 2-4 weeks. I certainly have had a lot of anger, insomnia, night sweats, ibs/odd appetite, etc. And my sex drive has definitely been effected. But all of these symptoms do seem to get better with time. When I was younger I tried two different times to get off paxil but I tapered way too quickly and experienced depersonalization. It took me about a year to taper from 40mg to 10mg and then I rested at 10mg/day for 6 months bc my symptoms got so bad. But time heals all wounds. Your body will slowly adjust and heal but it can take a long time for some people. Go slow and be gentle with yourself and know that you've got the strength to do this!

@@cowboyjohnsontown Thanks for your view on this. It made me motivated and someone going through same is truly is a relief. I didn't know they sell liquid version of it. My doc said they don't. I was thinking I might use the jewelry scale to measure and taper but the tablet is so small that it barely any weight. The liquid option would have been nice...

@@cowboyjohnsontown It truly is a crime to allow this kind of drug are legal and they prescribed it so casually..
@cowboyjohnsontown2 жыл бұрын
@@Yash-Gaikwad Yeah I eventually found a new doctor that was more supportive of getting off paxil. Most doctors don't understand de-prescribing. Liquid paroxetine definitely exists and it's made my taper much easier. You can combine it with pills to get off dosages: for instance, if tapering down from 20mg to 18mg, you could take a 10mg pill and 8mg of liquid paroxetine (which is most like 4ml. My liquid paroxetine is 1ml=2mg) Yeah it really is a nasty drug to come off. Go slow and be gentle with yourself. Try to surround yourself with some supportive friends and/or family. I've told people around me what I'm going thru which has made things a bit easier. I wish you all the best my friend - we've got this!

@@Yash-Gaikwad Also, look into a "low inflammation diet" (low sugar, low carb, no dairy, no alcohol, no processed foods) It really helps my symptoms. And don't drop more than 10% every 2-4 weeks.

Yes! I take Meclizine 12Mg for vertigo. When in fact I truly only needed that shit for the beginning of paxil and the ending of the drug. This doesn't mean I didn't need it as a victim. It means you will still suffer even after 2 years later

Thanks for the video. I’ve been on Paxil for most my life, over 20 years. The only reason I stayed on it was because of the horror stories I heard about trying to get off it. Last year my stomach just couldn’t handle it anymore. I took one 20 mg tab in the morning and one at night and the one at night was making me violently ill for some reason. So I immediately stopped the nighttime pill and holy shit……….. bad move….. and it took a LONG time to come around from all the withdrawal symptoms.. So I was ok for a while taking just one pill a day. I would take half in the morning and half at night , until recently when it started happening again…. Of course I wanted to stop taking the pill all together, and had plans, but was scared. Taking Paxil was scary and getting off it was equally scary. But I knew my stomach just couldn’t handle it anymore. After I took it it felt like I drank poison.. it’s the absolute worst feeling I’ve ever felt and nothing helps. So I decided to be more careful this time and used a pill splitter and started taking a half of a half in the morning and a half at night but split into tiny pieces to try and not get sick.. And holy shit… the withdrawal is killing me I actually feel like I’m dying.. Today I decided to only take a half a day.. it’s only been about a week but I want to stop putting this poison into my body. Holy shit today’s been hell… No one should EVER go on Paxil because your going to totally regret it when you decide to try and come off it. I don’t NEED an anti depressant like I did when I was a teenager.. I’m 44 now. When I went off the first 20 mg last year and the withdrawal symptoms went away I felt FINE. Nothing to complain about. So if you can just get threw the horrible awful withdrawal stage you’ll be fine.. Omg I feel awful….. Just one more half to go…….

Jenna Jen, I’ve been on Paxil for over 20 years too. My max dose was 40mg. I am down to 8mg/day, but it has taken over a year. Reduce no more than 5% at a time, and stay there as long as it takes to feel better. Then make another reduction. I bought a jeweler’s scale, and I use a calculator to do the math. You can do this. I’ve been able to function, and keep my full time job this whole time. The biggest mistake most of us make is trying to go too fast.
@jennajen262 жыл бұрын
@@paulaboynton8299 I was up to 40 for years.. so far it’s been a year of getting off it and I got down to 7mg , anddddd I cannot function…. I can’t leave my house I have agoraphobia and massive panic attacks…. This has been hell.. I’m going up to 10mg to see if that calms this down because yea when I start reducing I go way too fast.. but only because I cannot even stomach Paxil anymore… but I found if I break it into the tiniest pieces my stomach is ok… ugh Paxil 👎🏻
