Payday 3 Beta - My Experience and Thoughts on it

I played Payday 3 Beta for a few hours and I got a few things to say.
While I do think some aspects of the game are pretty cool, it has some major issues, but thats hopefully just because its a Beta Build and hopefully will be improved on Release, which makes this review video kinda pointless but I still wanted to go for it.

About performance: 16Gb RAM, radeon 5700xt and ryzen 5 3600 - no stutters like you had, smooth 60fps on lows, 60-40 on medium, weird. In general - i believe. It looks like a decent foundation, it just gonna take some updates for devs to get feedback and change stuff. Remember how release pd2 was also had its weird stuff? It was also 30 dollars on release iirc. Yet here we are, 10-year anniversary soon, one of classics in gaming industry. Payday 3 can be our next classic. lets hope it will.

7:25 nah man the criticism about the phone is beyond silly. The game is set in our present/near future so them carrying phones is not too out there. In the gameplays I've seen they are used reasonably (cam hacks, answering pagers, calling exfil etc) it's not like you can pull out your phone and start clowing around on it like you're in GTA.

This is a brutality honest review of the game, but it is a early access build so many things will improve.

@@unclegeldgeil The real question is: Why would it vastly improve? This the closed beta aka demo build, anything from here out is polishing (even if that's polishing sh**). They have every incentive to ship the latest stable build, since this drives pre-orders, this stuff will be shipped with some minor tweaks, nobody is redoing the entire game 6 weeks prior to release. Also the "this is an old build, performance on release is vastly better" is a pretty tired excuse that turns out to be just wrong most of the time.

​@@stunningandbased5516because this is the exact same thing starbreeze did for pd2 and they absolutely changed things on launch based on the feedback from the beta of pd2, also helps they generally do listen to the community for changes that we want.

I can agree with most of what you said, and we can all definitely hope release is better. Definitely one of my big gripes that isn’t related to the Beta itself is the Armor system, which basically seems to force you to bring armor bags, especially since medic bags don’t restore downs (except with a skill), and health is pretty much impossible to stay alive on alone. I definitely think having some way to restore lost chunks of armor without a bag would be good, and could be done without completely invalidating armor bags.

the armour regen was a good safety net for the player, it allowed you to be a bit more ballsy but you're still able to survive and keep your health. the lack of armour regen will definitely make players a lot more cautious and careful, but the problem is that it means you are strongly pushed into bringing an armour bag. i don't know how to feel about being so reliant on a deployable.

i dont think denuvo stops modding, but it definitely affects performance of games as it requires constant verification tokens.

The PAK files are signed, this means the game won't allow modified replacements. So no mods it seems unless they change it for release.

@@javgarag A lot of games with denuvo have mods, i think it’s really just dependent on the developer and i think they know how big of a mistake not allowing mods would be.

@@Sarahsqueak still, afaik ue4 won't allow for any kind of rebalances/custom maps/stuff like that. it'll be limited to asset replacements and perhaps HUD element replacement, but we won't be able to add our own scripts.

If I am correct, there is a skill that allows grenades explode on impact because grenades don't explode on impact? I am not weapon expert. Also, the CRIT and EDGE etc are temporary buffs that are activated under certain circumstances that are written in skills. And this Beta was made to mainly test the connection stuff so that might help reconsider their decision? It is old beta in the end. The might tweaked thing or two but we must wait until it's game full release. Aslo, from what it seems by different people who streamed Payday 3, some had issues while playing on normal, the game being not that easy. Maybe you are too good at the game :P

i remember kknowley saying that if you had a fair amount of knowledge and understanding of payday, then you could use the skills you developed in pd2 in pd3. So that can be the reason (or the only reason) why he found overkill a breeze, whilst others had trouble

You can play solo with bots when the game releases. The beta was only to test the servers and not the actual gameplay

You seem to forget Battlebit Remastered's development had the same issue of handling large capacities of players.. It's a technical closed beta. This is normal to see connection issues.

Been playing the game since yesterday on med settings 1366x768 res on my 1050 ti (hopefully upgrading soon to a 3080) and 12600k and was running at solid 55-60 fps all the time with very minor stutters from time to time but i have been pleased so far i was expecting it to be worse

Here's the problem you and many other people aren't understanding A 3080ti gets the same performance as a fucking 4090 My 4080 compared to my friends 4090 We both couldn't play at 120fps in low fucking graphics. $2000 cards meant for 4k gaming Can't even play payday 3 which graphically isn't that impressive at 120fps on low graphics 1080p

Tbh, the gunplay is more up to date, but not better per say. To me it felt like the enemies had little to no response to being shot, like they were just invincible until suddenly they're not. Especially with how it took a few shots to the head to take out even the most basic grunts.

it's better than payday 2's gunplay, but that's really not a high bar. and payday 2's gunplay was better than payday: the heist's gunplay, and that's an even LOWER bar. not to say the gunplay in those wasn't enjoyable, but it certainly isn't as smooth as modern players are expecting in an FPS.

Agree about always online being bad, I think that's the consensus with most people since it actively harms your long term enjoyment of the game. But I found some other parts of this video to be a bit whingy. Like I don't really see anything wrong with the new armor system or the new gameplay mechanics like grit and edge and stuff. The game does tell you what that stuff does in the skills menu but also they're clearly trying to make the game a bit slower than payday 2, more in line with payday the heists sense of difficulty. So they wanted to change some stuff around to make it more interesting.

Performance wise its ok tbh. I got 90-120fps on my 4070 Ti 12GB and 13900K on Ultra settings. I somehow noticed lower performance on lower settings tho, so maybe try increasing the quality and maybe upscale the game Also I think the game is lacking a lot of the build creatoon possibility PD2 has, since you can only equip up to 4 perks. On the other hand it focuses more on the individual players skills but still

A lot of the criticism here just seems baseless due to lack of experience due to external issues like the servers being shit so no understanding of skills, difficulty wise, i don't really care, DRG is one of the easiest games ever once you get the hang of all the mechanics. Armor wasnt changed to be more realistic but I dont know why it was done either, I guess its to add more resource / team management (pdth did it amazingly so idk bro). Specials however, yeah, they really arent threatening maybe the dozer when you get him on your ass in a corner then yeah goodnight.

bulldozers in payday: the heist were terrifying. i didn't realise the bulldozer in that game was wearing a white balaclava, so i thought it was some scary skeleton monster.

Yeah payday 3 is basically showing all the signs of being a likely mediocre game. Sad to see but hey guess I'll keep doubling back to DRG (friends at least want to play).

It has minimal requirements of a cyberpunk 2077, while also running worse and looking worse than pd2. The game is both made by overkill (they cant optimise for shit) AND has denuvo, which will inhale performance until they remove it like 3 years later. I was actually excited for this game, but watching gameplays and how bad the game plays and runs, I'll stick to pdth.

The build is apparently from april so there is SOME hope but even if the game is gonna be optimized, there is still the entire only online Thing which just kills the game for me.

The game is terrible, it's such a massive downgrade from Payday2, and even payday 1, it's horrible. Console port on pc, constant online, no private matches, very few weapons, skills, features. UI is extremely minimal. This feels like a prototype not even a beta

Yesterday it broke for me but when I closed the game and got on the next day I was up to level 11 so try closing and reopening your game see if that helps
