iPhone Stuck In SOS Mode? Here's The REAL Fix!

David & David explain how to fix the problem when your iPhone is stuck in SOS Mode. When your iPhone says SOS or SOS Only, it isn’t connected to a wireless network, but you can still make emergency phone calls.
Most of the time, your iPhone says #SOS or SOS Only because you’re out of range of your carrier’s network, and to fix it, you’ll need to go somewhere with coverage.
But sometimes your iPhone can get stuck on SOS Mode even in areas where you should have coverage.

Quickly toggling Airplane Mode on and back off again gives your iPhone a fresh chance to connect to your carrier’s wireless network.
If you’re traveling internationally, check your data roaming settings. Just be careful, as data roaming can get very expensive if you’re not careful.
It’s a good idea to check for a carrier settings update. Carrier settings updates are released by your wireless carrier and Apple to improve your iPhone’s connection to your carrier’s network. You can manually check for this type of update in Settings → General → About.
Next, try ejecting and re-seating your iPhone’s SIM card. Your iPhone’s SIM card is what connects it to your carrier’s wireless network. It’s possible the SIM card has become dislodged or damaged, leaving your iPhone stuck on SOS mode. If you have eSIM, toggle your plan off and back on again in Settings → Cellular.
If your iPhone is still stuck in SOS Mode, check for an iOS update. Some software updates include “modem” updates, which help improve your iPhone’s connection to wireless networks.
To address a deeper software problem, try reseting the network settings on your iPhone. This erases all the Wi-Fi, Cellular, VPN, and APN settings to factory defaults.

SOS MODE is a buggy feature that Apple either needs to fix or allow us to disable. If you are on TMobile and none of these fixes work for you go into Cellular Settings, turn off roaming, turn off auto select cellular network then select T-Mobile network as default, if you have a weak cellular connection turn off 5G auto and select LTE only, finally in wifi settings make sure wifi calling is ON then scroll all the way to the bottom of screen and turn Off WIFI Assist. Took me some time but this fixed the issue for me, because Apple SOS Mode interferes with auto switching to wifi calling on the T-Mobile network. This is not a great solution but the only one that works for now.

Seriously though, I just got my first iPhone after using only Androids for 13 years, and my brand new 14 pro is stuck in SOS mode. Even from the first boot. And unfortunately I can't use your tip because my settings are completely different. I can't even enable wi-fi calling because the phone has never activated since it has been in SOS mode since the first boot. Also, I'm on Verizon.

I've got an issue that is apparently an issue for a lot of people online. Sometimes, when I receive a phone call, the phone button stays green and won't turn to red. My SOS only/no sim issue started after I finally updated the software on my iphone to iOS 17.3 - boooo. No "tricks" in this video worked for me including resetting network settings. I ended up calling my carrier and they had me take out my sim card and installed an e-sim which has finally done the trick. thank you guys for the guidance :)

iPhone 12, SOS never comes on when roaming, however it comes on when I manually cut the grass banks with the phone in my pocket listening to music. It has to be related to an over-heat issue. I live in a very remote area and when I travel etc. the iPhone is always losing connection with my carrier, it NEVER goes into SOS, only when it is obviously in a heat related environment.

Prior to watching your video I kept only finding videos where third-party software companies were trying to say that the only way to solve it was to use their random software which made me very nervous. So tonight I found out we were able to see the northern lights from where I live (Pittsburgh-ish PA) and I was outside getting pictures when I dropped my phone and it said SOS. Well I couldn’t send my family the pictures or FaceTime and was bummed out because you could really only see it through your camera anyways, so I was getting a good view for my parents who aren’t around me right now. I get the SOS a lot in my are and it has to do with power outages with trees breaking the power lines. It will usually go away in about 10 minutes when the cell tower batteries are generators kick in. However sometimes that may only last an hour are two. We sometimes have really long outages.

Spoiler Alert: Verizon/T-Mobile sucks. A while back ago, I had an iPhone 4 from Verizon. Both providers told us to remove the sim tray from the Verizon iPhone 4. If you didn't know, their isn't no sim slot on the iPhone 4 from Verizon.

I never knew this was an issue with iPhones. What a disaster these things are. I just bought my first iPhone after 13 years of only using Android, and my brand spanking new 14 pro is stuck in SOS mode. I've tried every fix you guys mentioned and nothing works. I've even tried them multiple times. I ended up contacting Verizon and they told me to wait 24 hours and it should work, but I have my doubts. In all my years with Android, though I had my share of issues with them, I never had a problem with them connecting to the network. This is stupid and makes me hate Apple even more than I already did. This is stupid and shouldn't even be a thing. I can see a bug like this existing at a time and being fixed, but evidently this has been an issue on iPhones for years. Crazy.

It's crazy. For me personally, it ended up being fixed by Verizon. For some reason, they were blocking the phone from activating, and I had to get on the phone with tech support for them to fix it. I'm from Verizon I've gave this phone for years it keeps going in sos mode unless I switch the sim

This just happened to my dad’s phone. I called his carrier support line, and apparently there was a weird issue that his eSIM showed he had a different phone than what was registered. They had us delete the eSIM and activate it again, and it worked, but you may need to call and not just do it yourself. This is such a dumb thing.

I have a configuration profile on my phone idk what it is if I delete it would it mess my phone up
