Amazing! I love the jazz theme development analogy. You can’t read the Bible for years without knowing that to be true!

I always think the same , like how good were these authors to Put this together so amazingly perfect, then I always say, the Holy Spirit was the author through them and that always helps me ❤

WOW! What a phenomenal Episode. I was completely unfamiliar with the work of Dr. Tim Mackie before, but I absolutely must check out his own podcast now, I could listen to him talk about these connections Chapter by chapter through the entire bible and not get bored!

Bible project podcast is a great resource. Its approach makes you think and reread your bible. 😊- A unified story that leads people to Jesus.

Tim Mackie's approach to Gen 2-3 is desperately needed in evangelical churches today, where "young earth" ideas continue to mislead young people, and create cognitive and spiritual dissonance for them that decreases their trust in Scripture.

Ancient writers wrote with an aesthetic similar to how architects designed buildings. E.g. Consider the Parthenon’s artistic sophistication.

“So what?” Great question and I honestly don’t think it was answered very persuasively. This kind of discussion can come off as very exciting to Bible nerds who love the original languages, but not seem very relevant to the average Xian’s faith, love, and service. It also makes one feel as if reading these texts in English isn’t very useful for ascertaining their ‘true’ meaning.

Jesus and the NT writers seem to read Genesis, including the early chapters, pretty straightforwardly as the account of real people and events, no?

Personally, I don’t hear Dr. Mackie as saying anything that implies events are not historically accurate. To me, the artistic virtues of pattern and literary symbolism, as presented from page 1 of the OT to Revelation, as contradictory to historical accuracy. Or as Dr. Preston mentioned - it’s not an either or. My own experience reading scripture (without expectation) mirrors Dr Mackie’s observation in that God’s word is even more beautiful when I view it from a bigger picture POV. I think sometimes we fear that deeply held beliefs will be challenged by fresh perspectives -but if we trust the HS to guide us then I think Truth will reveal itself. Jeremiah 29:13-14
