I graduated law school with 88,000 grand in debt. I been saving during the pandemic and with Gods grace I’ll pay one lump sum. I’ll owe 66,000 after the forgiveness. I’m thankful.

I was struggling with the decision to not go to law school. But talking with my friends who did, watching Partner Track, and other lawyers on KZbin I’ve been able to be ok with not going. I’m too old for the lifestyle and the long working hours.

It also depends on what type of law you are interested in. Partner track reflects one area.

I recently wrote the Bar exam (July 22 waiting on my results 😬). The bar exam really made me realize how lucky I am because the girl next to me in the exam was telling me she owed over $150,000 in student debt. I mentioned this because I'm a foreign trained Attorney and was fortunate (my inheritance) to have my parents pay both my undergrad and Law school tuition in the Caribbean. So while I was complaining about the $6000 I paid for bar prep I'm very fortunate to be debt free. That would not have been possible if I went to school here in the US. My advice to anyone that wants to be a Lawyer is to really consider the financial aspect of it.

If your education was outside of the U.S., you may have a difficult time securing a high paying legal position. As I'm sure you know, in the U.S., attorney positions are hard to come by and most of those jobs are given to those who graduated from top tier American law schools.

@Lena Price I hope the day will come when "money" is not the main focus. As a former Pharmacy Tech and current Judiciary employee I have seen the otherside of big Law and it is very dark. A lot of big law Attorneys are only surviving because of a PILL and that's all I will say on that.

Thanks for sharing. I have had similar conversations with my youngest daughter (she’s a high school Senior) regarding going to her dream school, Brown vs. attending a state school for free. She is bent on attending Brown and instead of loans, has decided that joining the military to utilize the tuition assistance there would be her best bet. She had contemplated 12-14 possible majors and has finally selected Economics with a concentration in Public Policy, as of this writing. She will be on the pre-law track.

Two years later, how are you doing with repayment now?

I think law school should be free or at a discount price. Paying $2300 a month would take more than 6-7 years to pay off. It's too much in my opinion and this debt should be forgiven as you serve as a lawyer at least. Congrats on your investment and your career! You invested wisely.

I say cancel all of it. So finances don’t prevent us from having more teachers, scientist, creatives, lawyers etc. imagine how far technology would be if education was free.

Brown provides need blind scholarships (which cover tuition) if the family income is at or below 200K per year (but double check with the financial aid office for the exact family income limit). If your family income exceeds the need blind threshold, then your daughter will have to rely on the family's savings, outside scholarships, and/or loans.

Hi Angel and Sam! I’ve been watching your channel for a while and am so inspired by your law journey. I applied to law school this cycle and got accepted to a t14 school, my dream school, but with no scholarship or aid. I’d have to take out loans for full cost. I’ve also been given a full scholarship at another law school that’s ranked a lot lower. I plan to go into public interest, and am wondering if the loans are worth it or if I should take the full scholarship. Any advice?

Can you apply for scholarships when you go to law school or is that not really a thing?

yep you can! I received an alumni scholarship from the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

@@Sistersinlaw Why don't people apply for tons of scholarships the same way they do in undergraduate?
@Sistersinlaw2 жыл бұрын
@@judahlewis505 I can’t speak for everyone but I applied to a lot of scholarships. There are less available for graduate level programs.

I see how much traveling you've been doing on your youtube channel. That's all money that you could've put into your student loans. Scale back the lifestyle to pay the loans.

Great recommendation. A lot of our travel expenses are tax deductible.

Weird comment. Being in school and having debt happens to both genders? Or are you not aware men are in student loan debt too? Go troll someone else page.
