yes! in brazil the cassava flour is part of indigenous culture. our food is also a mix of portuguese, african and indigenous due to forced colonialism + enslaved people. so rich yet so sad!

Brazil is a big country. You can find warmer people in certain regions and introspective people in other regions. Try to experience the north and northeast of Brazil. People in these regions are warmer and more welcoming. Depending on where you visit you may find cultures very similar to European ones (like in the south of Brazil).

The dish moqueca, made in Bahia, is of Malê origin primarily from the Yoruba, Hausa, and Fulani ethnic groups of West Africa (modern-day Nigeria, Benin, and Ghana). The Malês, whose main religion was Islam, were brought to Brazil during the transatlantic slave trade and heavily concentrated in Bahia. Ingredients like palm oil (dendê) connect the dish directly to West African culinary traditions, highlighting how enslaved Africans preserved and adapted their heritage despite immense adversity.
