I know this is a video from 6 years ago but it was still very helpful for me as someone who just got the game - thanks!

I am actually thinking about doing an update with detailed play through using all the newest charts

Very informative Dave. I am a Statis Pro player but this could be very tempting for me. Great Job

Dave, I really enjoy all your videos and we seem to have similar favorites among the games - Strat, Payoff Pitch, HMB, Statis Pro and Replay are the ones in my rotation as well. I grew up on Strat but am finding the game engines of the others to preferable in how they give the pitcher more control of the outcome. One thing I wrestle with among the games that offer printed vs. PDF versions is the cost of paper and ink to do my own printing. Paper, even card stock, is fairly cheap. Printer ink is not. If I'm going to do a season replay and/or to use all the teams frequently, I prefer to just pony up the cash and pay for the printed cards - especially in the case of Payoff Pitch and Replay where they come pre-cut and all I have to do is just sort them and start rolling the dice. But if I'm going to play a lot with just a few of the teams, then the PDF is probably a better buy. You can just print what you want to use. (And it also saves storage space in the closet!) Keep up the great videos, and thanks for shedding light on these games. I'll be watching! Dave J

Dave Jackson You are right on about the cost of ink. I sometimes will pay for actual card sets instead of PDF if I plan to use all cards. some seasons I only focus on world series teams so PDF fits the bill.

Thanks for the instructional video. I still haven't played the game but after watching this now a second time I believe well I feel I can give it a go. Look forward to trying out my game sometime this week.

i use excel spreadsheet to generate 2d6 and 2d10 results using the RANDBETWEEN function. so, RANDBETWEEN(1,6) + RANDBETWEEN (1,6) produces the 2-12 pitcher's card offering. then RANDBETWEEN (0,99) provides the batter result.

Good video. I recently played my 1st game and your video answered many questions I had while playing.

Thanks for this detailed and thorough video. I’m wondering, though, if you’re doing one thing incorrectly: you routinely refer to the OUT# chart to determine runner advancement on all fly balls, but I suspect this is wrong! Take a good look at the Ballpark cards. For Defense checks (both Range and Error), notice that they have 3 sections: HIT!, OUT# and ERR*. I suspect these three sections are meant to refer you to the three corresponding sections on the Dice Chart table; that’s why they’re “keyed” with the three symbols !, #, and *. So I believe that table was designed to resolve Defense outcomes from the Ballpark cards ONLY. In other words, if I’m correct, routine fly outs that don’t come off the Ballpark cards should not be resolved on the OUT# chart. Make sense?

I'm baffled by the runners advancement rules. Any chance of a quick youtube run through?

This game would be the absolute best ever if a new version could have a few changes. 1. Pitcher cards need to have Left/Right Splits just like batter cards 2. Ballpark cards need to show effects on balls hit to different fields. Example--Fenway should have more wheelhouse chance to LF than to RF, so RHB would benefit. 3. Ballparks need some adjustment for size of foul territory--Ebbets Field vs. Comiskey Park 4. Pitcher card needs to have some adjustment for Ground Ball %. Tommy John vs. Nolan Ryan--huge discrepancy in percentage of ground balls given up. FWIW, as a pitching coach for a junior high team, I used Strat-o-Matic Baseball to teach a group of disinterested 7th and 8th graders how to get interested in math by figuring out all the statistics from the player cards. It would be more fun to do it for this game.

If Campaneris got a poor jump when he attempted the steal of second, does that drop his steal rating on the resolution of the outcome?

on defensive range checks it seems to me not to be enough difference between great fielders and poor fielders. just my impression.

Dave, I'm thinking about getting the pdf sample set. Now when I go to print these cards, what size do I use? In other words, do I use 8.5x11? I think I heard you mention A5 or A4, not sure. Depending on what you use, I notice the size of the cards are different. Need you help on this one on how to set the printer specs. TY....Brian.....Love your videos.

Regular 8.5 x 11 is just fine.

Do pitchers get tired?

Yes. They have a fatigue rating and the game uses fatigued pitcher cards
