Hello, I'm 11 years old and I'm going to get a ferret soon. My parents are fine with it as long as I know how to take care of them and that I keep the ferrets away from them and I know I have to do a lot of research before getting a ferret and I did that I also made a schedule. But it's I don't know how hard it is to take care of a ferret on your own. And I was wondering if I should get a ferret when I'm older? Or should I get it when I have the chance too? And I was wondering how you know when the shedding season starts or how long it takes.
@Pazuandfriends5 жыл бұрын
Wow, I applaud your maturity! I am so happy you are looking at the future. I definitely recommend waiting to get ferrets until you are older. An exception would be if your parents agree to pay ALL vet bills (even the ones that can cost thousands $!!) and that your ferrets are allowed to roam the house supervised. If they agree to these things, you seem mature enough to handle them at your age as well. I would see what your parents are open to allowing.

Hi, I want to say thank you. I'm 13 and I've always loved Ferrets and always wanted one but I was afraid I was going to hurt it or do something wrong. Recently I've been researching alot about Ferrets and my parents say that it's fine as long as I wait until we move (We've been trying to move for a while but can't because of all the corona stuff happening) I'm hoping that maybe in a month or so we would be able to move and settle in. I've been saving up to by ferret things, You've really helped me thank you so much.💕

@Lilly Carr-Mosert Hey, All I said about the smell is 1. Every animal has a smell it's just ferrets smell is a little bit stronger. 2. If you keep the ferret in a big enough area a lot of the time instead of in the cage most of the time that won't smell as bad And 3. Once you have it for a while and do the 2nd thing the scent should become normal for you I hope that worked and good luck:)

I think scent is an opinion, some people tolerate the scent so much they don’t think it stinks but then some people are very sensitive to scent and think their scent is gross. Like I’m sensitive to the scent of birds and think their scent is disgusting but I don’t think ferrets smell too bad, they have a scent but it’s tolerable to me, petstore ferrets don’t even stink to me. If y’all are getting a ferret keep in mind the scent might be worse or better for you than other people.

I would get a proper cage and I would let it run around my room for 6 hours. But here’s the problem my parents are divorced, could I bring it back and forth? ( I switch about every 2 1/2 days). If I can’t bring it back and forth, I will wait tell i can drive. I’ve had cats, dogs, hamsters, rats, and I’ve cared for rabbits. People always say I’m mature for my age and I take good care of my hamster. My parents would pay for the vet bill. I would pay for the cage and everything else.

Hi! I’m twelve years old and I really want to get a ferret. I have been researching every day for a loooooong time. I’m still persuading my parents to get me one. I’m saving up for everything on my own and taking care of it on my own. I understand they are a lot of work as I have other pets too and researched a ton. I’m planning on getting a large cat cage because unfortunately the ferret nation was too much for my budget. Also it took my a while but if I get one I will be feeding ziwi air dried cat food and dr. Elseys chicken cat food. They are both very good for ferrets at least I think so though. So do you think this is a good plan? Are the foods good? Do you have any tips on persuading my parents? Or maybe how to raise money? Keep in mind I’m only twelve! Also I am unable to feed raw. Do cats and ferrets get along? Dogs and ferrets? Any diys or places or ways I can have lower prices?? I hope you read this and thank you so much Ik lots of questions!! Also.....I can have my ferret out earlier in the morning before school and after after school for up to 7 hours. I would get lots of toys and options and a larger cage for extra entertainment just in case. I have kept everything under a strict budget and made sure I have everything!! I put items in my cart on websites so I can have those items if I ever get them. My parents would help me pay for 50% for the food each month and pay for vet bills. If I get one I would be planning on a boy baby one and getting it near our schools Christmas break or the weekend before because then I can spend the extra time with it get it really used to me and it’s surrounding and take it off the food it was on, because there are no adoption centers a driving distance near us.😔 so I will probably have to get it from petco, soldans or preuss pets. I have a larger room and my room is in the basement so after I ferret proofed I could let it roam. How should or what should I ferret proof tho? And can ferrrets fit under doors? Oh and last thing sorryyy I am making a whole thing to present to my parents to inform, convince and hopefully let me get one! Also I’m thinking about just feeding the ziwi I’m just having trouble deciding!! Or maybe I could do ziwi air dry with ziwi wet food mixed?? Or go with my original plan?? A little troubled!! There’s so many prices and options it’s very hard!! I’m just trying to do what’s best for a ferret and for me. Please help!! But by that please do not recommend other brands or options I will get way to stressed I’m just wondering what an experienced ferret owner thinks of the foods and what I would do. Also what dog and cat toys are safe and good for ferrets? And I was also wondering how I could bond with a ferret. Btw your very informational and I’m a fan!
@sebastianlist24265 жыл бұрын
hey ameliai i dont think your old enough to own a ferret yet sorry! first of all you do need to save up for the ferret nation cage or one of similar in size. The cat cages are to simply to small for them. Its also very unfair for the ferret if you only get one. The animals deeply bound together and i assume you're till in school so the ferret will be left by itself for to long. if the parents dont really want to get you one their not gonna put in the work to look after it ether, and if their not helping out with money then you just need to wait and save. We spent an incredibly about of money getting stuff for the ferrets and having it all ready for them and i think if you cant do it properly just wait till you can. Just wait until you have moved and you have the money, especially if your parents aren't on board with you. these animals are LOTS of work

sebastian list.. hi thanks for your response! Actually the cat cage is pretty big, almost 4 feet tall, has 3 levels, lots of space. It’s just the same as the ferret nation that everyone insists you must get-even bigger too-but it’s simply just too expensive. Unfortunately I not planning on getting a ferret after I move out and I still do really want to get one. My parents do not disagree I haven’t asked them yet. I’m putting together a lot of information to show them and tell them about costs the work, lifespan etc. I’ve been researching for a while and I do know a lot. I have many other pets and understand the hard work you put in to pets and the responsibility and matureness you need. I am still in school but I have plenty of time in the morning and evening, when ferrets are most active which means he will be sleeping when I’m gone. I’m incredibly interested and do not want to wait. Also, I didn’t want you to discourage me even though that’s not what you meant I simply hoped Bryn would answer the questions I actually put. I’m sorry if that came off mean but I was disappointed when I read the responses. I know I’m only twelve but I’m a very smart girl and I am good at working hard to get what I want all alone because it pays off.
