Let's not forget the late great Chris Schenkel, who called so many bowling matches for 36 years. He truly was a most beloved and legendary figure in the sports broadcasting world. Growing up, I can recall many Saturday afternoons when my mom had the TV tuned into ABC for PBA matches. Mr. Schenkel had that uniquely soothing yet knowledgeable voice. He never once made any event about him; it was always about the bowlers or whatever else he was covering. He was one of the very best.

I never get tired of watching the films of this match. I was a young adult at the time and Earl was my idol from my middle teens on. I still have a picture taken with him at the Long Island Open a few years before this. He averaged 223 that week in Akron on a lacquer condition and before the era of friendly lane conditions and juiced bowling balls. It is somewhat ironic that if it wasn't for Steve Cook, he would have been north of 45 victories. He WAS the greatest of all time.

I would love to see an Earl Anthony documentary. There just isnt much out there except he was recruited by the baltimore orioles and he tried the tour once and failed and came back two years later. He was just so dominant in the sport. I would love to see interviews about him before everyone dies like Mark Roth and Marshall Holman. Plus a bit more about his crazy untimely death.

Timothy Duzenski, a new book came out late in 2019, "Earl The Greatest Bowler Of All Time" by Barry Sparks. I didn't see it available on Amazon, but there is a website to order it from, just Google it. I think it's around $30.00. Got mine for half price on E-bay, may want to check there.

A lot of unnecessary hate for Pete, who is a very complicated, and misunderstood person. Yes, it's self-inflicted, but unless you've battled addiction and/or alcoholism you cannot understand what he has gone through. I'm in recovery myself (sober for over 15 years), and it's a day to day situation where you have to stay on top of your program. I don't wish this on anyone, but you simply cannot understand it unless you've been there. I've never really been a bowling fan of Pete, even though I watched him when he first made an appearance on TV when he was one of the young power players to come into the league. But, I appreciate what he's accomplished in the sport and I sure can relate to what he's gone through, and has come out the other side alive and productive in society. Congratulations Pete.

Pete Weber never endeared himself to anyone. I saw him bowl when he was a teenager and he was an arrogant, entitled ass hole even then. He's never demonstrated one iota of humility. His father seemed like the nicest guy in the world, but who knows what his family life was like and why he turned out as he did.

Advertisement is misleading. Anthony finished FIRST in titles and had the lead in major titles BEFORE PDW or WRW Jr. came along. Let us not forget that Mr. Earl achieved all this in the era of the true greats like Mark Roth, Marshall Holman and others. Now to be fair, PDW has had the accuracy and longevity to better Earl's majors mark and he made the adjustments with the new equipment too. The only way WRW Jr. did anything was because of the new equipment, as he had only a little over 3 titles with the stuff Anthony bowled with. Anthony was super consistent with a very low-tech ball and a roll unmatched by others today. Anthony will always be the first and #1 in any bowler's minds that knows these facts because he did it with MUCH less and on MUCH tougher scoring conditions relative to today's game, lane conditions and available equipment.
@stephenbyerly58876 жыл бұрын
This post is entirely too petty for Earl Anthony's memory.
@getreal61246 жыл бұрын
To state and explain that Anthony got there first, before anyone else and was a nonpareil bowler? Hardly.
@stephenbyerly58876 жыл бұрын
Square Earl wouldn't have felt the need to put down PDW, WRW Jr., or modern bowling to stroke his own ego. Yes, we know he's a nonpareil bowler. You're making much ado about nothing.
@getreal61246 жыл бұрын
This isn't about what Anthony would have done. The premise was Earl was 2nd in titles when he got there first. That is misleading. You state "to stroke his own ego." That is a genetic fallacy and ad hominem attack which both invalidate your argument. Return to high school or 1st-year college and learn basic logic and facts.
@stephenbyerly58876 жыл бұрын
Earl is second in titles. That's not misleading. That's a fact. Pointing out that he got there first is fine. Earl is the best bowler ever, second in titles, and first in titles per year. Putting down PDW and WRW Jr. isn't necessary to make that point, and in doing so you reduce Earl Anthony's stature, which is greater than either one of them no matter how good they are. Consider: would you rather be better than a player who is only good because of his equipment, or a player who has mastered the equipment of the day and who *still acknowledges in interviews that Earl Anthony is better?* To Earl Anthony's credit, he's better than the best, and I don't even need to put down other bowlers to show that. And dismissing an argument just because it has a fallacy is known as the fallacy fallacy. It's extraneous to what I've been saying. Also, if invalidation were that easy I would have dismissed your argument out of hand from your first post for its fallacies. I recommend you return to high school or first year college. I'll teach you argumentation and rhetoric.
