The younger generation just doesn’t understand the use of plastic. They’re brought into a world of nothing but Aggressive cover stocks. What do you think these guys used in the 70’s and 80’s? Rubber, plastic, and Urethane. Plastic is very controllable and if thrown in the friction, can be very deadly.

I actually use a plastic ball as my main strike ball. Been bowling with plastic for 11 years and rolled an 819 with it a couple weeks ago. Resin's hard for me to control, even with a low-end ball.

Jesus Christ 819 with a plastic ball? I bowled averaging 220+At a extreme tough house in New Orleans and 824 minutes was the house record with any equipment. Shot was easy as hell but shots simply wouldn’t carry
@nogard85413 жыл бұрын
Yeah, people nicknamed me "Mr. Plastic" locally. I've got a couple resin balls and just got the new Purple Tank urethane. But nothing I throw gives me the same amount of control I have with my plastic ball, but I'm trying to learn to throw different stuff for experience and variety. That said, plastic doesn't really work on anything other than a house shot for me, so put me on a challenge or sport pattern and I'll probably be lost.

My dad in the past when he and I bowled, all he ever used was plastic. He couldn't keep a reactive ball on the lane. He used to average 220 or better back at Expressway Lanes in Gretna, LA. His revolutions weren't like mine. I had the power and revolutions to keep a reactive ball on the lane, but I would use plastic for spares.

It all depends on original oil pattern and how dry the lanes are as to what type of ball will work on a lane. Bowl on a super short oil pattern or bowl on a set of lanes long enough without the lanes being reoiled and you can get a plastic case ball to hook. I find the problem with plastic though is driving power. It could just be me as I am not a professional but I can never get a plastic case ball to have the same driving power as an asymetric pearl or an asymetric solid. With plastic you might be able to get it to curve if conditions are right but you will never get as many strikes because of the driving power issue. Experienced bowlers know what I am talking about.

Another reason to use plastic is that it pushes the oil around and ruins the pattern much fast than resin balls. Some players get mad about this so if you can pull it off it could be a psychological tactic
