the classic old heavy gold pins. I love bowling with them every year at the lumberjack when i go to the peterson classic
@kylebryantdover1921 Жыл бұрын
They only used them for PBA.

Isnt it something to think that any small sound heard in the alleys today makes the bowler distracted but during this time period, you were encouraged to make noise while they were bowling? It only lasted a few seasons but this was when the PBA was still transitioning from ABC to ESPN. I miss the gold pins.
@troymeredith5216 жыл бұрын
They still allow it in the PBA The League. It does seem like it's gone from match play though.
@IlGreven5 жыл бұрын
It all depends, really. I mean, if the noise level is consistent, it's not a problem, whether it's 0 db or 80 db

Good point most including myself can’t really deal with this amount of noise

The noise must be expected to not be distracting

Back in the day the crowd where behind the bowlers compared to today's crowd where the on the side of the bowlers and there were no cell phones during this time I think that why bowlers get distracted in today's bowling tournaments

My local alley still has some gold pins. Enough to make 2 lanes have about 17-18 apiece. My boss/the manager used to use them for the finals of the nightly scratch sweepers he used to run years ago

You may have seen that the announcer stated that this was the 12th, not 13th, TV 300. The reason is that on May 3, 1997, Jason Queen bowled a TV 300 at the ABC (Bud Light) Masters in Huntsville, AL. However, that event was not sanctioned as an official PBA event at the time. In May 2008, the PBA retroactively upgraded the Masters to PBA event status, and statistics for all PBA members were adjusted accordingly. One of those stats, of course, was Queen's 300, so every TV 300 between Queen's achievement and the May 2008 retroactive upgrade (eight total) was shifted back by one. Hope that clears the confusion.

Nice to see a PBA on CBS clip. Can't wait for PBA on Fox.

I feel like this is even more remarkable since they're all left handed. All the advantage of the lesser used side is nullified

Was Parker the First and Last person to ever bowl a 300 on live TV with the gold pins? Just curious.

I'm guessing Mike's video will be tomorrow since Steve Jaros also did it with today's posting. Looks like Parker was the first.

This is listed as the 13th televised 300 game, but Marshall Holman said that there were only 11 before this one. I started watching these videos from #1. Does one of them not count for some reason?
@pba6 жыл бұрын
Jason Queen's 300 game (the 11th), originally wasn't recognized as a televised perfect game because it was rolled at the ABC Masters, which isn't a PBA event (even though it is a PBA major). Retroactively, that was rightfully changed. In the mean time, though, the announcers were technically correct as they were going off the official list.
