I have to say, when you first started to add the shadows, it looks very drastic.

That is true, +RawrJustJames. In fact many other artists go even 'wilder' with the beginning contrast. But that's a good thing as maximizing contrast is probably one of the most important things when it comes to miniature painting :)

I'm amased by Your work. Your brush has the finest point i've ever seen (except for my W&N series 7) but real hair seems to 'dislike' water/watercolours. Is it a synthetic brush? Doesn't look like one. Lasse

Hey +Lasse Hyllemose, We are also using the W&N Series 7 for almost all of our work. Long hair, size 1 in 90% of the cases.
