Key part of the history that was not told on this video...the original name of the war was not 'The Seminole War', until later. The original name as denoted in the military history archives is 'The Negro War'...it then changed to the 'The indian War' and later to 'The Seminole War'...each name change gathered more 'citizen' awareness of the call for 'freedom and security' for the neighboring states. It also caused a divide amongst the Seminole / Maroon, which was critical for the success of the US Army. Wonderful American History that is fought to be removed from the educational learning curriculum.

If you are visiting South Florida you can go to the Seminole Reservation and see a Native village. It's on Alligator Alley, West of Ft Lauderdale. The Seminole Tribe also owns the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino chain, with locations in Hollywood, (east coast) and Tampa (west coast). While not really a "Native" type destination, it is theirs. The best thing is to go online and research what you're looking for. An airboat ride through the 'Glades is always a good experience for visitors interested in Old Florida. Good luck!

By Who? Not by Floridians. My husband was born in South Florida lived most of his life just miles from the reservation in Broward, went to High School and was friends with members of the Billy Family, and like MOST locals, has GREAT RESPECT for The Seminole Tribe of Florida. Throughout the county are historical remnants of the Second Seminole War. AS well as a MULTI-MILLION Dollar Hotel and casino. Underrated IS NOT a term anyone here would use.

@piratepete842
@piratepete842 10 ай бұрын
Actually Osceolas head was removed after his death by the physician at Fort Moultrie..Osceolas grave is outside the gate of Moultrie..of interest around 1965 during a visit there I overheard a ranger telling a man that a group from Florida had recently stated that they had snuck in and disinterred Osceolas remains and returned them to Florida..about 3 years ago while visiting there I brought up that rumor to a ranger..he stated that he vaguely remembered hearing about it, but felt that it was likely unsubstantiated..also stating that due to respect no intrusive studies were to happen..so there is the mystery of Osceolas remains..one can visit Moultrie..it's located on Sullivan's island

I find it very disappointing how you don't touch on the American Army's disgrace of capturing Seminole warriors under white flags of truce. You also didn't touch on how Osceola was transferred to South Carolina where he knew he was going to die. His last wish was to be buried in Florida where he was from so he could rest in peace. Instead he was beheaded after death, his decapitated body was buried in a Fort in South Carolina and his head was used as a toy to terrorize children and was eventually traded off and lost. Yea...You could have done better on how ***** us Americans really were.

what are the things that always makes me a little bit crazy is the use of the Seminole imagery, etc. by Florida State University 💁🏼‍♂️ especially the use of the horse and the spear… As I understand it, the Seminole literally did not use horses at all, and certainly did not hunt from horseback using the spear… is this true ⁉️💁🏼‍♂️ and how is it that Florida State University can use the Seminole tribe imagery for all of their ads and commercial purposes ⁉️ I assume there is some agreement there… But How do most Seminoles feel about it ⁉️ is there compensation for all of the tribe members⁉️ and I wondered, do they mind the inaccurate depictions of their tribe?

Seminole are Maroons. I am a Jamaican Maroon direct Descendant of King Kojo. Maroon does come from cimarron but it that word comes from Marrano which comes Arab muharram meaning forbidden the moors Black African Muslims used it to describe Pigs becoming marrano in Spain. Marrano is derogatory term for HEBREWS calling them Pigs Cimarron is Run away or Wild Pig. The Jews of Portugal and Spain escaped to Jamaica and hideout from the inquisition such as maroon leader Juan De serras (Serras a town of marranos in Spain)
