I need to get back to my PBNs! This has reminded me how fun they are to do! I have to get all my coloring supplies out of my desk, forget about shading and blending (for a while) and set up for painting a PBN! Love you nails!

Couldn’t find (again) your video on Flow-Aid but you are right! It’s a miracle product unlike the thinners (oh my) & used the one drop in 20 drops of water one (and do it in the cap) which then doesn’t change my main color ☺️. One doing is masterpiece brand & didn’t gesso it as the flow aid made it not needed on this kind!! Tysvm for your videos Melanie.

I’m glad you found it helped you too. 😊 As far as clear gesso on MBN paintings, they tell people their canvases don’t need gesso, because they are pre-primed, but most quality canvases are pre-primed with WHITE gesso. When we do the kind of detail painting we do with the kind of paints we use, the clear gesso can make all the difference. Now having said that, I have started a MBN painting without the clear gesso and didn’t like it, and I added it and thought it made a huge difference. Not all people feel the same way. I tell everyone to do what makes it work for them. Who am I to tell you what to do? I would rather give you options and let you decide what works best for you. ☺️

@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Yes! Some canvas’s really need gesso & if I had found a nice 2 inch brush I would have tried! But at Walmart (live in very rural area) only had like strange feeling ones or the foam & so I took on the challenge so as soon as get more than 5 places filled will put up my WIP!! Again yes, it’s up to each person & just enjoy it 💜!!

Just found my love for acrylics & especially pbn’s & knew nothing about gesso & all those tiny holes & trying to cover number w 5 coats (managed) but now have ordered the gesso & have the brushes & waiting on one so will keep watching as need all the tips I can get!!

Clear gesso is a MUST-HAVE!! It will save you years of stress and frustration. 😂

Even first time applying (to really a more fabric type photo canvas) that actually soaked the glitter out of an acrylic paint 😳 but when added TVs clear gesso over it again (took a chance as was on back). It pulled back out a big of the glitter so was very impressed to say the least! So think if like Masterpiece (have one to do) say don’t gesso theirs. My big question is (being a beginner gesso person & heavy handed anyway) in 2021 do you feel I should do very light of it as a big canvas of the Macaws & it’s a big canvas & have shoulder pain & eye disabilities so on that one it looks nice & tight. But if really “treated” could it mess it up? Don’t know but doubt it if very light & the clear?? Tyvm & will start when caregiver help comes today or tomorrow!!

It is a macro lens, and it was either focus on the number, which didn’t matter, and have everything else blurry, or focus on the important parts and let the numbers and lines be slightly blurred. Thanks though.

I’ve been really trying to up the production end of the recording. It was so difficult to get it to focus on that light gray. Next time I may choose a painting with darker lines and numbers, which may help.

Great info. Question-what do you recommend to put on PBN to preserve the paintings. A zoom would be nice.

Zoom was used. The grey lines and numbers wouldn’t have allowed for enough contrast for the macro to focus on, so the next part of this series will be even closer. In addition, I intentionally kept the camera further out, because it seems that no matter how many times I explain it, some people are still missing that I use the cosmetic wipes to reshape the brushes EVERY time I rinse. Well I’m using the brushes right Thank goodness Although the paint pic I posted goes on like stain and leaves streaks what else could I be doing wrong? Not enough flow aid?? Too much ?? I’m lost it’s only with about 6 of the colors in the set the rest look great!! It’s got to be something I’m doing 2 paint bigs have colors that are bad?? What’s the chances of that?? It’s funny because I used a macro lens, and I have now started checking my edits on a 55” tv, and everything but the numbers (which are not important when you’re demonstrating the paint brush and technique) were crystal clear. It may be a streaming issue or a setting on your device that is the issue. 😉

The baby wipes work well also, but since a group member told me about the cosmetic wipes, it’s been amazing for my brushes. I’m about to do an upgraded video for 2022, because since my original Tips & Tricks video 2 years ago, I’ve learned so many new and helpful things for our hobby! Just like everything else in the past two years, this hobby has evolved so much, and it’s definitely time for an update. It takes a few days to set up and record a Tips & Tricks video as involved as one for PBN, but it’s on the To-Do list for the next week or two. Since this video last year, I’ve also designed my own custom paint brushes and just last week I launched my own brush cleaning system. These wipes were my inspiration for that concept.
