It’s sad that he died just a month after his final public interview and only 3 after his final speech. It turned out that he died of a heart attack despite the fact that he had been doing awesome up until so.

Edd Kalehoff's PBS Newshour is one of my favourite music intros - his updates are captivating and truly fits the brand of the Newshour.

Every time I hear it, I say "NBR is on! Wait, the Newshour??? What???" I suspect Edd Kalehoff was too lazy to make a new cut using the Newshour "signature" (the last 4 notes)

2000-2006 was always my favorite. When I was a kid it would come after the kids shows and I would wait just to listen to the intro

Anthony Butler Mine too! When I was a child, I very much remember listening to this on my nearby PBS affiliate WOSU-TV 34 in Columbus, Ohio when I was either 4 or 5 years old at either my parents or grandparents' house either 2003, 2004, or 2005. At 4:30 P.M., Arthur came on, then Cyberchase came on at 5:00 P.M., and ZOOM came on at 5:30 P.M. (which I saw the 2005 WOSU logos video that came from May 12th, 2005, as well as both program breaks before and after ZOOM), and after those shows, at 6:00 P.M., The News Hour With Jim Lehrer came on, and I would just wait to watch the blue screen, listen to the show's trumpet fanfare and hear the intro, and then after that, because for the rest of the day that marked the outro to children's shows, it was time to change the channel and turn off the TV. Oh, the great childhood memories back then! NOSTAAAAAAAALGIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Convenient that they expanded to an hour in 1983. When they started with the half-hour formant in 1975, that just focused on news story, it was basically a supplement to the network news. But back then there was still Walter Cronkite on CBS, and MacNeil and Lehrer presumably didn't wish to compete with him, so they were satisfied to just supplement him. Cronkite retired in 1981, and after some more time, MacNeil and Lehrer decided maybe they could compete with network news, so they expanded to an hour in 1983.

In case anyone was wondering, the first intro was from April 19, 1977.
@averywilson-hayes60275 жыл бұрын
And also, the first News Hour with Jim Lehrer intro from 1995 was from November 10th of that year, the second News Hour with Jim Lehrer intro was from September 12th, 2001 (the week of the 9/11 terrorist attack on The World Trade Center in New York), the third News Hour with Jim Lehrer intro was from June 26th, 2008 (when Jim Lehrer returned to daily anchor duties on the News Hour after surgery for an aortic heart valve replacement) and the PBS News Hour intro (the one from 2009, not 2015) was from December 8th, 2009.
