I just got a Turbo Duo in the mail this week and it functions just as this one in the video. HuCards work and CDs spin but won't boot. I have a cap kit coming in the mail so hopefully the CD drive works after the recap. Thanks for the info!

@@LIRetroGaming Very helpful! I worry about doing the twisting method, I really don't want to tear a pad off on my Duo, I've accidentally done that on other consoles before. When I go to do it (probably Saturday night) I'm just going to be extremely careful and take my time.

I have a PC Engine Duo-R that reads authentic games and music CDs beautifully.. but not backups. I think it's the POTs that needs adjustment?

It might be the cds that you are using and the speed that you’re burning it. Try a different brand and a slow speed

Yes definitely. All of them have at least a few capacitors that are failing. The sooner they get replaced the better for the health of your system

Normally I do not recommend ceramic capacitors as replacements for electrolytic capacitors. Sometimes it’s ok, but I’m other cases the ceramics do not match the properties of the original ones

FYI, The Chemical Brothers - Born in the Echoes Deluxe is an 80 minute factory pressed CD that you can still buy. Comes in handy for testing Duos.

My Turbo Duo is having problems playing Hu Cards. I had an Everdrive that was working and now I am getting a white screen.

Is the region switch set to usa and not jpn?

I had the same problem. I had to fix the via's next to the caps direct behind the cartridge slot. Those are power lines to the logic ic on the other side ot the board. When those via's fail it will be stuck in cartridge mode (logic gate hold low) and never enter CD mode

Tengo una Pc engine Duo R con arcade card, quemé varios juegos a 1x y hay varios como por ejemplo el Fatal Fury Special que en un TV Bravia corre perfecto (a veces la musica de traba sospecho que porque es un cd pirata) pero en un tv CRT el juego se traba, no avanza! Me llamó mucho la atención eso! Alguien sabe por que es???

How can I get my Turbo Duo refurbished? Currently, it'll play HuCards, CDs, Arcade CDs, but it has issues. Loud scratchy sounds, no video sometimes, no audio sometimes. The multi-tap won't work for player 2. I did open it up and used contact cleaner (but not on the CD lens) on both sides of the board, all my controllers, and used that cleaner from ToyRUs for the HuCards (yes, I still have that cleaner and cleaning pads from way back in the day). It didn't make anything worse, but I'd love to play my games again, free of noise and freeze-ups, especially with my surround sound system. Any recommendations? I went to Ebay and discussed a possible refurbish, but quickly got the impression the person was ignorant!

Does it have the original capacitors? If so that definitely could explain a fair amount of the problems you were describing. Scratchy sounds and issues with video and audio also may suggest that the laser needs to be calibrated. If it’s using the original capacitors then it definitely needs to have all of those replaced for starters

@@LIRetroGaming As far as I know, it has never been refurbished, so it looks like the original capacitors. I could not see any leaking capacitors or anything that looked abnormal when I opened it up. There is a TZD sticker just above where the HuCard is placed (has the 1-800-DUO-THIS number on the label), if that helps.

I purchased a duo from Ebay. The Hucard games will Not run, it’s just a yellow screen. The Hucards I’m testing with works, on my other PCE Need help, pls. What do you think? Thanks in advance

It’s very likely that it needs new caps, but without seeing it in person it’s very hard to know for sure

Fortunately this one did not need any adjustments to get working. Changing the capacitors was all that was needed
