fun fact, during space invaders development, the developer loaded every invader into memory and moved them all at once, this was very heavy on the CPU and required lots of time to move every entity. it noted that as invaders were destroyed, the moving all of them at once was done quicker due to a lower burden on the CPU and memory and therefore it would speed them up and start moving them faster. after some testing he found out that it made the game more fun as it was harder and harder as it went on, and thus left that 'bug' in. After all: It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Fun fact: space invaders doesn’t get faster towards the end intentionally - that was because the CPU on old arcade machines and computers literally couldn’t keep up with updating so much data so quickly. It would literally speed up because you were freeing more computing power for it to move less data. This is because the old systems used the CPU clock to operate games, rather than “delta time”, which was a measure of real life time, rather than system time. This is the reason why running the original software for street fighters on a modern computer would have the entire game running significantly faster.

The funny thing about space invaders is the fact that harder gameplay at the end wasn't coded into a game. Instead the computer had less objects to render, thus making the game run faster, or should I say, at it's normal speed.

I got a TI-99/4A from my Uncle who had one when he was a kid. It taught me how to program. The BASIC language on it is so friendly and easy to pick up that it kept me off my parents computer for months. Although despite it looking a lot nicer than other PCs of the time graphically, it was arguably one of the slowest PCs due to the fact there was very little actual CPU accessed RAM and instead most things, including programs, were stored in freaking video RAM which was way slower. So it's not actually the best demonstration of gaming from the time period, better example would be C64 or Spectrum or something along those lines, where while not as pretty they still run faster and typically have more stuff going on.
