Really enjoyed the dissection of the Spyder - thank you for recording it and posting. I have had my new Spyder for about 3 weeks now. What a machine.! Handling steering NASP mid-engine engine manual box - just perfect. The fact is the new Spyder is a GT4 with sol 😎. Thank You Porsche for making this analogue beauty.

I’m enjoying this KZbin, just got my 981 Spyder Gt Silver over Garnet Red. I’d be envious of you but the PCCB brakes are absolutely gorgeous and can stop a planet’s rotation. And no brake dust...

Brilliant video, loved this! Owned the 981 Spyder - brilliant car - now in the 718 - brilliant car. Both different, both legendary. Really interesting to see the underneath and the engine!! This explains why it feels so screwed down ; ) This man clearly knows his trade... wish he was my local mechanic!

Everyone complains about the muffled sound of the 718 Spyder, all you have to do is unplug steel braided hose off the vacuum valves and plug both ends with a high temp Silicone Rubber Protective end cap I got from Amazon, it takes less than 1 minute to do on each side, now is embarrassing loud all the time, otherwise, the exhaust valves won't open until above 4500-5000 RPMs. I notice no backpressure performance degradation what-so-ever. I was going to purchase particular filter bypass pipes from Soul performance or Fab Speed, now I am having to rethink that, as it is really loud with the exhaust valves on all the time.

Fantastic video. I would love to have a separate video on how the Porsche sound synthisizer works, where it gets piped to to bring the sound of the engine to the interior and tips and part number list so I can add it to my Cayman R.

An added curious aero piece is the golf ball textured panel behind the front splitter! Dimples on golf balls make them fly straighter. From Scientific American: "Dimples on a golf ball create a thin turbulent boundary layer of air that clings to the ball's surface. This allows the smoothly flowing air to follow the ball's surface a little farther around the back side of the ball, thereby decreasing the size of the wake."
@MrPagnu4 жыл бұрын
The front splitter is like a golf ball for aero reasons. Those dimples keep the air layer attached to itself . You can find the same design on road bikes aero carbon wheels

It’s clear that Porsche listens to customer input. My guess is that the 2024 will have an automatic roof mechanism with extra horses, and the tall gearing changed to make it a 7 speed manual. The base Boxsters will go electric
@Porsche19694 жыл бұрын
No, it certainly won't have "an automatic roof in 2024", because having a manually operated and light roof is part of the fun with the 718 Spyder. I like it very much, because it reminds me more of a 356 Speedster than of a normal Boxster. For those people who don't understand this "philosophy" of reduction: there's a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 with the same engine. This is the model which has all the "normal" Boxster features like the electric roof, but it's heavier and of course it don't have all these GT3 axle parts, which make the 718 Spyder and GT4 so special.

Does this car have a particulate filter which lessens the exhaust sound? Is this exhaust the same as the one in Europe? Thanks for your excellent video!
@PorscheClubofAmerica3 жыл бұрын
On the 4.0 liter engine in the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 (and also the coming GTS 4.0 models), both the EU version and the U.S. version are equipped with the same filter substrate to fulfill worldwide noise regulations, including those in the U.S.. However, the EU version’s substrate is plugged in certain areas to create the particulate filter effect, while the exhaust gases of the U.S. version can pass through it without being restricted (unfiltered). Additionally, the EU version’s substrate is coated with precious metals, which the U.S. version’s is not.

I love the Spyder, it’s a beast, but think I would just park it and wax it. Gearing is very tall. Boxster power roof saved the day last as rain fell early. Love that power top and 350hp w 309 ftlbs is plenty of fun.

Make this with a normal room, full sound suppressing, normal metal door handles, add 10mm of clearance, no alcantara everywhere, and regular summer performance tires. GTS 4.0 on steroids. Now we are talking

Is this engine in any of the cup cars? I want to hear this thing on track.
@PorscheClubofAmerica4 жыл бұрын
This engine is in the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4. The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 get a detuned version. As far as we know, there are no plans to put a naturally aspirated version of this engine in a 911, let alone a Cup car, unfortunately.

I am confused. These folks are saying it is only a matter of time until Porsche puts a 4.0l NA into a 911. Then captioned that Porsche said no plans? Uh, doesn’t the GT3 have a 500hp, 9000 rpm NA 4.0l flat six? Am I missing something?
@PorscheClubofAmerica4 жыл бұрын
The flat six in the GT3 is not the same flat six in the 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4. The 718 engine is based on the 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat six in the 911, only the turbos have been removed and the engine enlarged to 4.0 liters, among other changes. Same displacement, different engines.
@danrickard19114 жыл бұрын
