I've been doing this job for 18 years. I'm a senior technician/team leader and totally love my job. Have to say though that this place is very quiet, our unit it totally manic as we cover 5 major hospitals and numerous cottage hospitals, still it makes the day go fast! We are totally overlooked by the medical profeesion and Donna is right without us we could render a hospital useless in 24 hours! Keep up the good work.

+Freddy Placencia you can google travel CRCST to find companies in your area that do this. But basically you are hired by a company. They contract you out to hospitals to come work. The contract can be wks/months. In most areas you can do this "locally " within certain mileage of your "base" some are more nationally. But start with a Google search to find the companies in your area and then you can schedule a meet and greet or look at their website.

I think all hospitals throughout need to start paying more for these position not only is hard work but realistically even if your at $13 hr who can live off of that. Without SPT docs can't operate patients which tells me that the salary that SPT make is way below what it should be. Surgical Techs are also on the low end if you ask me $45,000 yr in some states. All the hard work yet easy for docs to come in and make a good $100 hr or more. I think these positions need to be reevaluated by Human resources and the CEO of each hospital because something has to give. You have medical assistants getting paid $16 hr. While SPT are getting paid $10-14. And the workload is alot lighter for MA checking patients in and out. REEVALUATION on salary is what needs to be done.

The SPD tech (Sterile Processing Tech.) class is not $30k. The most I ever saw the class is around $1,100, but as low as $425. You may be thinking of the Surgical Technologist program which would be around the $30K range. It is an actual two year program (depending on what school you would go to). The salary of SPD/Sterile Processing is lower than what a Surgical Tech would make, and the responsibility are a bit different. Not sure if this helps or clears things up.

Sheri Jones hello. Are you still working as a sterile tech? If so, where did you take classes? I'm trying to take classes
@carmenruiz76535 жыл бұрын
Where in pa are they paying $18.50. I live in Lancaster Pa they pay $13. The instrument tech does that pay more.

That was a damn good fold on that pack. I’m still molding my craft on the folding aspect of my job. I work in a small hospital so we do everything between three techs. There has been so much to learn on this journey and it’s been crazy.

i'm starting at a hospital tomorrow. starting pay is between 8.50-10.00 but pay will increase longer you stay. it's a good job but look into something else like surgical technology. Im only starting this because im having trouble with finding what i got trained to do. So i'll be starting tomorrow and all the ppl ive met are really nice.

I'm a surgical tech and you don't have to wear gloves if you're just touching things coming out of the washer it's after they've been sterilized to the temperature of 2 30 degrees and their impacts in your opening them you have to have gloves on

Not true, I'm enquiring about becoming a sterile tech and you need to be working in the industry before you can do the needed certificates. I was told to apply for casual positions with intent to study.

If the chemicals affected her skin, she was not wearing proper PPE.

Those instruments she said for stapling isn’t for stapling. Their called hemoclip appliers and they are used for very tiny hemoclips. Smaller than staples
@cindy67625 жыл бұрын
Just wondering why she isn’t using gloves towards the end? 🤔
@bar86655 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing! Not only for her protection, but for the instruments that will then go into peoples bodies. Right as I was thinking that she says "sometimes the instruments still have tissue on them and need to go back to decontamination" WTF! haha so why no gloves on?!
@teksal135 жыл бұрын
@@bar8665 She was not touching sterile instruments.They had only been washed.
@L0rdjaggi4 жыл бұрын
not suppose to assemble trays while using gloves because sometimes you could accidentally cut a small piece off without noticing and that small piece would ruin the tray even after sterilizing.

Yes, it is. My wife knows a sterile processing tech, and she told my wife to tell me it's hard work. It's bad on the back, and the potential of other injuries makes it not very desirable as a job.
