Clarification on the “Everyman” PCGS sets. For gold sets, “Everyman” is AU58 max (only coins that have been in circulation). For silver (SLQ, Morgans, etc), “Everyman” means MS64 cap (no gem coins). Even though SLQ aren’t my thing, always enjoy the content!

In my humble opinion, every coin that has ever been cleaned, improperly or conserved properly should all be marked cleaned. As most of us know, there are significant differences between conserving, cleaning and polishing. But when it all comes down to it, it all falls into the same category as cleaning.

Ahh; the vagaries of plasticizing our coins; I’d rather put sets of vf-XF coins together in the raw, ive done this with all 3 barber series; buffalo nickels; mercury dimes; lincoln cents and didnt get into 3rd party grading until I went sell my Morgan Dollar set and many of them came back as VAMS and higher grades(old timers selling XF coins in the 70s & 80s had full breast feathers on the eagle; grading was mainly uncirculated or not uncirculated; the rabbit hole of grading into slabbed coins changed this going into the early 90s; then the MS-65 Investment Boom went bust in the mid to late 90s as millions more high grade morgans hit the plasticene era.

Ben the chance that coins are going to come back cleaned are high in collections. First, collectors for albums tend to buy the cheapest nicest thing (usually a crack out that was already labeled cleaned). Secondly the older and nicer a coin is, the higher the chance its already been sent in not once, not twice, but three times.
@DanielHughes-rf2yf7 ай бұрын
The album comment. I personally don't 100% agree with. Collectors will crack coins out of a holder and put them in a Dansco album. Now maybe the blue books but even alot of them are really old. Just from what I have seen. However it is up to debate.

That AU55 1892 V Nickel looks more mint state to me with all that luster. There was one AU58 V nickel from early in the video that looked the same. In my opinion they should have earned a low MS grade.

I am relatively new to this actual coin stuff, I mainly just focus on stacking silver 1 ounce rounds, but I do know " the red book " exists, i'm curious is there a spot in that book for ' cleaned ' coins? i'm not entirely sure how much ' cleaning ' has to do with pricing, but if a coin is certified ' clean ' is there a spot in the book for that?

If you sent them to CACG, they would all come back cleaned.

Every time I send in more than 10 coins at a time they always get what I think it's lower than it should be. Maybe it's me but try it send in more than 10 than try sending under 10. I'm probably wrong buuut doesn't seem like it.

Question in regards to NGC holders and the information differences. Having looked at the same coin in AU-55 and one in MS-62 the higher grade has a Gold Strip below the Label. What is the reason for this?

If you see green gunk on the surface, why don’t you get it conserved when you send it to get graded and slabbed, or conservative yourself before sending it in?

@@TheCoinGeek You'd think that PCGS would have that information on their website. If they are going to use that on the grading of your coin they should explain what they determined as damage.

The V nickles were graded all over the map in my opinion. What I saw as fairly worn areas on several coins interpreted as still constituting an AU coin. Coins being called cleaned in one instance, and then another coin with near identical type surfaces being deemed not cleaned or straight gradable. Another coin straight graded as AU, with a bunch of cleaning hairlines in one field. The consistancy of standards just wasn't there. In fact the SLQ's were graded similarly, though not quite as bad, or perhaps I just stopped following as closely due to being already overly annoyed with the nickles results. How do you not pull all your hair out? Thanks for the video and your time and dedication sir, but this one just left me irritated ,not sure exactly why, as they are not my coins to worry about, just the principal of the thing I guess.
