While I completely disagree with some of the decisions PCGS has made on what to grade and not grade, I do appreciate the fact that PCGS is very up front about their decisions and provide this video to explain the reasoning behind their decisions. Thank you for the video.

You'd be surprised how many people would still buy many of these coins even with their "damaged" surfaces. Many of these coins are still great examples for a much more affordable price. Grading isn't everything for all coin collectors, especially the younger generation.

If I may; im not a big fan of grading, and im in tha minority that abhores PCGS. I think tha graders should not be able to grade by memory. Tha way ive been doing about it is using Coinfacts photograde as a grading set. I think all TPGs should have a unified moral set of guidelines and a solid grading set shared by all involved. For homie that got fucked in tha rear last night, my man graded 2 whole grades lower, because 1)at tha moment, he was uncomfortable and 2) that fuckin coffee is crack! Graders carry alot of bias and theres too much liberty taken with so much money at risk.
@kovacskovacs34657 жыл бұрын
+ PCGScoin - You mention that the overarching grading philosophy allows buyers to purchase or trade coins _sight unseen_. The idea is nice, but in practice, PCGS net grades for negative eye appeal specifically for fingerprints. For instance, if I were to compare a slabbed MS-64 coin and an obviously fingerprinted coin that's toned over with the same grade, how would the buyer treat the two? In most cases, I would say that the former is preferred over the latter. In fact, the idea of body bagging heavily and darkly toned coins based on subjective eye appeal is iffy at best. There's no real damage to the coin and the only thing that would prevent it from receiving a proper grade may simply be a minimal amount of conservation.

So let me grt this straight. If someone Sends you a coin to be graded for there collection you wont grade it because its too hard to sell and collectors just dont want them in their collection? That makes no sense. What am I missimg? What if the person wants it graded FOR HIS COLLECTION anyways? What if he has a buyer lined up already that wants this coin in their collection but will only buy it if its graded and packaged? You literally said "even if we grade it and give it a 61 and bag it...no one will want it in their collection.". This sounds like opppresion or exercise of power more than anything else. And if I pay hundreds for your course....what do I Get? Knowledge? Or as a coin buyer/seller will I then become a soecialiist that is allowed to grade coins? Or are you hoping enough people continue to purchase your extended course for the sale of knowledge so you can continue to keep your doors open during a time of uncertainty as you see yourselves becoming less relevant?

Should sofen up and start coming off, without really scratching it.. *HOPEFULLY*. Or use some olive oil, or white distilled vinegar. CLR should take it right off without damaging it also.. just put it over the glue part and after 2 minutes leave it under the water and pull it off carefully..

I have a collection of mangled coins sorted out from junk silver. It's an amusing collection. One looks like it was shot with a BB gun pumped up to the max. One was apparently embedded in asphalt pavement and driven over for years, with some small pebbles imprinting into the silver (and that aged asphalt was a bitch to get off). A few look like they were stored in Drano for a while. A Franklin half-dollar has the edges knurled over, as if someone tried to make a ring out of it by hitting it with a spoon, in order to make a finger-ring out of it, but lost patience (that was a "thing" in the 60s). Maybe I'll try to sell it on E-bay as "The Mengeles Collection."

I wonder if they would grade an ex-mount? Would it just get a lower grade or would it be sent back as a details coin? Obviously filing to doctor it as mentioned is a no go, but some ex-mounts aren't that bad really and in a slab you could almost not see it vs z coin you can pick up and view side on (that might be a potential problem). If it's not too bad a solder job I think formerly mounted coins can be excellent value if you went something really rare you might not otherwise ever be able to get and the way you would view it 95/100 times the mount is barely a problem. Obviously an ex mount isn't a first choice but if it makes an otherwise $20,000+ coin $1200 then it might be worth a shot

Good to know information but if you can't grade it or provide that service a refund in payment should be made if not that's theft. I think the coin collectors dictate the prices and value ultimately. Some gravitate to flawless coins while a heep of people gravitate to error coins driving the error coin value up. We've all seen doozy looking coins graded high selling for thousands 😆 in the end the value of anything is determined by how much anyone is willing to pay for it.
