I never change PCM . I just change instrument cluster had a lock smith try program the key to it still did not start . Claims cause is PCM . Will truck started with old cluster in it. You can take the junkyard key and module and tape the key in the circle and plug it in the connector under column cover and it will read the key while using your existing key for ignition. The module reads a pellet in the key through the ring on the module.

@@Chimi1993 Each key has a small coil in a capsule molded into the top of the key. A transducer coil around the key hole reads this capsule when it is held in its proximity.

And the sad thing - without changing the VIN number, you will not be able to program any other keys due to not having the PIN number for the used computer. I think it's much better to pay someone to do a "VIN number change" to the replacement PCM using a good scan tool. That way you can use your original keys, can program new keys and don't have to carry 1 set of keys to get into the door and another to turn on the ignition. This won't work with the newer Chrysler products.

I have a 2007 5.7 commander. The security system shut me down one day . I took a pcm and the key and skim ring out of truck with a 5.7. The key is now taped to the skim ring and is tucked under dash . This allowed me to keep using my original key and ignition.

If you go this route wouldn't the VIN be whatever the VIN was on the vehicle you got the PCM from? Another cheap.. Or actually free way to go about this with a used PCM is by opening up both modules and swapping out the EEPROM chip (soldering your old EEPROM in place of the EEPROM on the circuit board inside the PCM you're planning on installing). If you aren't sure which chip is EEPROM try googling "your car make, model EEPROM", or eeprom location..it'll be an 8 legged chip BTW, no matter the vehicle. If you're unfamiliar with soldering & desoldering you shld def practice on a circuit board from an old broken TV, phone, anything really. If people get a replacement ECM from a pull your part store its unlikely they'll be able to get keys & in that case switching chips would still be an option. Also there's no reprogramming needed when going this route since VIN, immobilizer, etc is all saved in this chip.

I have personally done this before on a Nissan Sentra, and I can confirm that it works perfectly-even with completely different years. Just make sure to correctly identify the right chip and use heat protective tape to mask the surrounding electronics on the circuit board.

Great video. A bunch of ebay junk yards sell these and will reprogram them to your VIN and mileage. Total cost is about $130. MAke sure you have the SAME part number (regardless of the last two letter date code). Some junk out there and some crooks, But worth the search.

well the dash has a Eprom chip with KM or Milage that much match the PCM/ECM along with the ignition key. I used to program them in hexadicimal.

This may work, but you will have a problem in some states when you go to get your car inspected because the inspection station's computer reads the VIN from the PCM. If it doesn't match the vehicle VIN, it won't proceed with the inspection.

I need help. I have a 2006 pt cruiser for some reason most of the time my scan tool will not communicate with it but when it does these are the codes I get p1604 p0700 p0613 p0882. Did you ever figure this one out? FYI: This 2006 srt8 uses the 5-speed NAG1 transmission and has separate ECU and TCM (no combined PCM). Be certain ECU is at fault as TCM can cause similar issues, though a P0700 would be present as well. A bad TCM on this vehicle would be the "good" news. DIY troubleshooting powertrain on these vehicles can get expensive, fast.

You don't have to change the locks for the keys... you can open the key and take out the chip and swap it to your original key..OR the new key that you get from the junkyard, place it or (tie it) next to the (immobilzer/skim module) on the inside. Then just grab a spare key and whala... there you go...

Here's an interesting trick. You can also disable the immobilizer function (or alarm function in older pre SKIM models), by starting it up, then shorting out the CCD or PCI bus line, once you see "No Bus" on the odometer, disconnect the immobilizer, then unshort the bus which will allow the electronics to communicate again but without the immobilizer, it won't require the SKIM anymore!

Also very first experience was a 97 Minivan with the VTSS alarm (before the immobilizer was introduced) where the cluster would malfunction and short out the CCD bus. If it malfunctioned while trying to start, it would do that start then die. If it malfunctioned while already running and turned off, it started and ran without problems after being shut off.

If I have 2 working keys I'd gladly buy a black online for $10, use my key cutter and do the self program procedure. But if only have 1, that's the problem. heres how to bypass SKIM security and without reprograming anything on the PT CRUISER (mine a 2001): remove the SKIM security by removing the PCM, Immobilizer and the grey key. Go down to a salvage yard, (I went to pic-a-part) from the same PT take the PCM and the black key and install it in the PT you removed the SKIM security from, take the positive and negative battery cables, tape them together for about 45 minutes then after 45 minutes, reconnect the cables and start and drive the PT.

That year Ram can go either way. If the key a solid black valet key, its not security equipped. If its a remote key or a silver/gray key, its equipped with security features. If you just replacing the PCM you have to have a good scan tool that can marry the security module with the other PCM. If you buy a PCM pre programm, thats not needed. But if its used it has to be married to the skim module. Im not sure what you doing or what problem you chasing to answer this

@@travisjohnson4983 Yes, pretty much. If you 100% sure the trans is full and not low then yes. Those are internal codes. Ive always had to go inside the trans on those codes. And now because of the year, its much simpler to replace

You either get the key cylinder from the car or simply re key your cyl to match the key.

@@torquingwithlarry6289 Thanks. The 2011 van use a different bus network than the year model vehicle in this video. Besides, swapping out a skim module on that van extremely hard so thats not a good idea for the 2011 model years.

Too bad the security module isn't the only thing that determines how the pcm functions, esp. chryslers. Gotta make sure the calibration code is right for your application, otherwise most things will work but there will always be something that comes up to bite you, if not immediately, eventually.

Well its going to be hard to use any scan tool if you have no communication with the computer (ECM?PCM) But there are things you need to find out, like why it will not start. Such as if its out of gas or not getting gas, or even getting spark for that matter. The easiest thing to do is spray some carb cleaner down the trootle body and see if it starts

@@hardytall8386 Hey bud, hear me out. In order to come out of theft mode and set car up for skim entry, the car has to set for about 1 hour with the key in the on position. This timer will pull theft mode away. But then the proper procedures need to be done. Im really not understanding what you trying to do. If you change the PCM, you bacically need to alert the skim module that the pcm was change, enter skim code, now the original skim would marry itself to the pcm that was just install. Also I question the device you using to input skim (scan tool) But thats the basics of a PCM exchange

Hey I might have a tough question for you. Got an 06 PT cruiser computer went bad so trying to cheapen at the junkyard and had it reflash to match the vehicle. Joe better than the day we got it. Next day on the way to get it inspected, it broke down on the highway. Found another engine put it in and now we can't get it to spark. Do you think the computer needs to be reflashed after only one day of it being used, even though it's been a couple of months since it happened?

I have 2011 Town and Country one day the car wouldn't turned on at first thought it was battery, so I bought new battery then it happens again, so I thought it was alternator so after my second new battery i think its the PCM that controls the alternator to turn on and off it looks like the ground from the field wires is not grounding in the PCM when I put wire directly to negative on batter it seems to make a circuit but the meter doesn't say its charging still reads what the battery is 12.5 v. Two Questions can I install voltage regulator kit to bypass the PCM. or if I put direct hot and ground to the field wires behind Alternator would this make the alternator start to charge again?

This is good however I believe some vehicle still need the Vin programmed to the instrument cluster, ABS and maybe some other modules. You may get error codes for mismatch. Either way great idea!!

Got an 04 sxt Neon w bent frame, got a 05 regular Neon. Swapped computer, key and skim module. Still no start. Complains about no battery temp sensor (not present on this model - 05) and says bad evap. Replaced w 04 evap and still complains "no evap". Maybe inst. cluster swap? I got both cars but not the 05 computer.

@@OnlineMechanicTips is a 94 Plymouth Voyager, but it's got dodge badges all around. It's a 3.0 v6. It ran fine when the battery died almost 4 months ago. Left the key on all weekend. Put a battery in it today and no spark, no fuel. Jumped the fuel pump relay it makes noise but don't sound how it did. Still no start, pulled the distributor cap main wire and held it to the manifold and no spark. No check engine light, just an oil light. Seat belt and brake lights in the infor center are on. So idk if it's the PCM or what. Not sure what I should be looking for. I tested the relay with jumpers and a DMM they all worked. So I'm like ugh...

@@scottouimet2865 My friend, with any diagnosis of this type, you need a scan tool that will display monitors and data. With this info you can determine what you not getting to allow starting. You could be missing the input data from the crank sensor and that can be seen on a scan tool. If thats the casr, you could simply need a crank sensor. But you have to start by knowing what you not getting

I have a 97 Town & country runs good pcm is bad. I have a 99 Town & country PCM rebuilt and reflashed recently body and transmission are shot. Will the 99 pcm swap into the 97 and be happy with 99 skim module? Both have security 97 has 2 buttons for seat and mirror position. 99 dont have mirror and seat memory.

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300C 5.7 liter. I got a new engine installed. My key battery dead so I manually entered the car. The car wouldn’t crank. I put a batter in the key and everything worked fine. The next day halfway through the day the car wouldn’t start. Battery, alternator and starter all good. Will this process help and is my car lock bu the anti-theft system? I just spent 4k plus and can’t even crank it.
