Thank you for this clarification. There are "knock offs" on Etsy now, AI written listings etc. My guess is Chinese made.

Many copies, etc. made. Do you know the origin?

Can't beat HBC fo quality. I just bought an HBC Scottish pure wool throw (so large, like a single bed blanket really -- 4 ft X 6 ft) with the HBC tartan pattern on it. Just love it! Beautiful design, and the wool is soft and cozy. A real heirloom piece. I keep it folded over my chesterfield. Yes, they are expensive, but if you care for it properly you'll have it forever.

Is that a bear trap?

Yes, just in case.

Its a common misconception that the points had something to do with beaver pelts. Its so common you can't be blamed for it, I thought the same thing as well until I found out it just indicated the size alone.

It's completely untrue. The points only ever meant what size the blanket was, not the barter value.

I just bought won for my Mom for Christmas 2011. I've wanted one for many years, but they are a little on the high end $, but something I always wanted. My Mom had one when she was a girl growing up in Winnipeg.

Beautiful gift!

They should change the bright green stripe to a forest green, and the yellow to a darker golden yellow. The blanket would look better.

Yeah, I guess that 230 year-old design wasn't that popular. ;-)

The colors were chosen in the beginning on the basis of vegetable dyes that were stable over time. Changing the colors now would destroy the authenticity. Sorry you don't like it.
