This is an amazing year for the desert on the PCT but, like I’m sure you’ve all heard, the Sierra Nevadas are just overloaded with snow. Good luck!

Not just the Sierra, all of the California Mts. Northern California may not be setting records this year, but still 150% of normal.

@@michaelb1761 NorCal will not top the Sierra. Once through there NorCal turns out as a recreation. Seasonal snowmelt has proceeded too.

I'm positive they know the deep snow conditions in the Sierras and have already planned to skip it or hike through it.

@Peter Puchegger did I say it would? No, I did not. I said that there was heavy snow in Northern California. The point being that there will be no skipping the Sierra to avoid the snow. Specifically, the Northern snow pack is currently 180% of the average April 1 snowpack. Can you honestly say you think it will be melted out by the end of May? There is absolutely no chance of that.

Good luck men. Us 80's children are rooting for you. Hmmm....I just noticed the elevation sign. It's pretty much 3000ft. Lately, due to the crazy cold weather the snow level has come down as low as 1,500-2000ft. Hope all make it through the San Jacinto section. I will be watching.
