Fabulous. Trying to find the positives in the delays - maybe it’s a blessing as your feet and legs are getting broken in gently. Could be important for the next four/five months. Thanks for sharing.

You guys are doing it just right. I can tell you feel frustrated with your progress; you should not be. You are already hundreds of miles ahead of the traditional April starters and will be in a much better position to accelerate when the weather gets better. A wise old Master Chief Petty Officer once told me "Sir, you get no extra points for doing it the hard way." You are a model of good decision making and steady forward progress. My start date is not that far away and I am watching you "break trail" and set the good example for us older hikers. I love it when you young folks come out in the wilderness an plough the road for us seasoned citizens!

My daily go to PCT vlog. Thanks codgers for all the beautiful scenery, humor, and hiking clips. You're an inspiration to 60 something codger who loves to hike as well. Btw.....I live about an hour away from where the PCT crosses White Pass in Washington.

Thanks for showing us all the technique for burring the tent anchors in the deep snow. How do you keep warm and dry in snow. Once everything gets warm it gets wet. Snow camping is nothing i want to try. I grew up in northeastern wisconsin living in snow for months. I love camping in the sierras in the summer in the dry in a tent with a TYVEK ground cloth, sleeping pad with a warm down sleeping bag.

What a gorgeous day! And great tip using a stick instead of stake in the snow.

Old geezers, sounds like your Brit is from the south of England. I'd probably say old guys, or old blokes. But glad to see that the spirits remain buoyant.

We are in ventura county about 120 miles west of your guys. In southern california we are known for going from winter to near summer in a week or less. Hiking a dry and dirt trail is wonderful compared to trudging through heavy snow. The good new is: if you are drunk enough even if you fall you wont get hurt. Drinking IPA is a gift from God to us all on this earth. Sierra Nevada makes an atomic Torpedo IPA that is over 9% alcohol, another gift from God. One is all I need.

Never pass a bench, and name the bench. Words of wisdom! Can't believe you all have gone so far. You might be some of the first hikers through this area on the PCT this year. Beautiful with all the snow.

If I haven’t Said it yet I’m so jealous that you guys are out there hiking. That area you’re in today is is my area I’ve hiked it so many times. I hate to tell you I was I wanted to tell you during the video I was watching that you’re going to get up to about 8900 feet. But then you’re gonna come back down and you’ll be in on durt soon. As I sit here with torn meniscus, bone on bone six months after new knee, about two months till another new knee and all I can do is watch so you know my heart is aching right now to be out there not in the snow, but in the dirt have a good trip and I can’t wait for tomorrow. Have a good night

Pa'at, Wonder and Twilight hiked this portion of the trail on April 3rd last year. I got tackled by a mountain bike rider who tried to pass us on the trail at mile 274.5. I insisted he turn around and go the other way and he wasn't having it. No snow for us. No mountain bike rider for you. Happy Trails!

Spring will eventually get to the Big Bear lake area. All that white frozen stuff has to be melting very soon. This week in Ventura we are in the high 60s with maybe even the 80s by this weekend. This has to be some kind of inflection point. The spring thaw has to be coming even to Big Bear Lakes area. That hostel looks very warm, dry, and comfortable in all that cold, wet and snow.

I was just on the PCT (overnight trip) near Wrightwood two weeks ago. Sorry to say, you'll hit lots of snow again past Cajon pass once you get up into the San Gabriel Mountains again.

Tough old codgers for sure, lol
@stevenvarner9806 Жыл бұрын
Cajón is pronounced "ka-hone." It means chest, case, crate, etc. The road where the McDonalds is located is a spur section of Route 66 and was also the National Old Trails Road as early as 1915. Before that, it actually went up the canyon a ways that the PCT comes down on. You can see remnants of the old road still.

With all the spanish words you will encounter in California, Cajon will be pronounced as ca- hone. In general, a “j” will be pronounced as an “h.” But whatever. I knew what you meant.

Nice shtick Joe has there, good option. I think Dave said Mush mush, the correct dog mushing call ironically for get going is “Hike Hike” , Gee = right, Haw = left, Go = go around. So hike hike old dogs 👨🏻🦳, your doing great. What an odd year. Pretty there.
