Before my 2020 PCT hike, I was preparing to send food boxes, but that was too much trouble and expense. I literally, reapplied along the way and it worked seamlessly. Also, I mixed my food along the way without having to commit to what I packed. Excited for you for this will be a journey of a lifetime. It was life changing for me. Happy Trails!

Giiirl! I love your videos so far. I'm thinking of doing the trail myself next year. I'm really curious how long you'll survive on the powdered food! Eating real meals is actually kinda nice 😀

I must admit, while I'm generally not terribly emotional, I nearly cried while watching your video about your lost backpack and COVID diagnosis. I kept repeating the mantra that's gotten me through many a rough spot: The universe is always right on time; so are we. I know it's hard to believe when times are tough, but seeing today's video it would seem the old mantra held true. Furthermore, I cannot help but believe that there are benefits with each added day you were delayed -- the most obvious being you will encounter less snow in the first 700 miles, and hopefully less severe conditions further up the trail. I trust that you are off to a good start on your hike, and am looking forward to your further videos! Be safe; keep at it!
@ashobrienoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for this 🙏 I love that mantra. Hard to follow it sometimes when things are following apart but I try to keep remembering it :) fingers cross for a wee bit less snow as well like you say :)

You made excellent use of your quarantine ! Hopefully your are on your way to the trailhead as I post this. Have a GREAT hike ! Curious about the Grand Tetons t-shirt. I thought you said that this is your first time to the US or have you visited the Tetons? My trek last summer was in Bridger National Forest in the Tetons - a fantastic place to hike. The same route as my first backpacking trip 50 years ago - 50 miles as a teenager which got me hooked.

Congrats on recovering and 1000 subscribers. Essentials can be mixed into coffee. That is a lot in the box for just 4 days. Learn about hiker boxes. You can find treasure in the hiker boxes at hostels. You can get rid of extras into them too. You will probably find that the instant oatmeal packets are cheaper and easier in the long run. Peanut butter in a one pound jar is much cheaper than the little packets. A 5 oz can of tuna is often cheaper than the 2 oz pouches. You will find that hiker hunger is protein starvation. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
@ashobrienoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips :) the box was 6 days worth of food. I looked at the instant oatmeal but I like to add things in like seeds and nuts etc plus the instant oatmeal packets seemed small, although to save the faf I might go for them on my next ressupply. Sorting out those bags took a longggg time! The huel is good for protein, 40g per drink and 30g per meal if I remember correctly :) I’m sure I’ll change a lot for my next resupply from what I’ve learnt on round one :) Ash

Yay!!! So happy for you! And, the journey can continue. My favorite and probably most beneficial electrolyte is LMNT. I take these on all my hikes. They have more salt, magnesium and potassium than the other electrolyte drinks. No sugar. Plus they taste great (my favorite is Raspberry Salt) and they come in a powder form that is individually packaged like Liquid IV is. Oh and we have Mars Bars. At least I think we still do). Good luck and safe travels!!
@ashobrienoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Ohyea I forgot about LMNT! Saw they sponsored kyles channel but forgot all about them till now! Do you know can they be found in shops or is it online only? And I’ll have to keep an eye out for Mars bars , ive been in 3 shops and haven’t been able to see them 😂 they are my go to when I need to dig deep on a hard day. Ash

Nice controlled backpack explosion. I like those blue bags for organizing your dailies. That gives me an idea when I do a long hike, I will "glue" my packages together so it keeps the wrappers together. Hey Ash, is it too early to make-up trail names. Since, you're adventure has already started. I'm think...maybe we can call you "No Pack" or "Hang Tight" or "1K".

Hey…they discontinued Mars in the US because it is very similar to MilkyWay. Or, if you want Almonds, try a Snickers Almond. If you get a chance, try one of those.
