Well we’re at it again. A little different approach this time. Not going to start at the boarder to attempt a thru hike this go around. Instead we will start first week of June at Kennedy Meadows South and head into the Sierra! See how far we can get before the kid has to go back to school. Should be a trip to remember, that’s for sure!

I like the mod you did to clip your tent to your pack. Very nice. The short poles are a huge selling point for me when I'm looking at a tent. I think there is a small weight penalty but it's well worth it. While I love the weight savings of my ultralight tents, if I'm going on a short trip I usually take a free standing one. They are just easier. Good luck out there.

Definitely. I’ve been using this set up the last couple years now and I absolutely love it. I did save juiuust a little weight because I went down to a 1p. I used to use 2p even solo because I liked the space. But I’ve since realized I don’t miss it with the 1p. So that’s good. Thank you! We are very excited to get started and to see the Sierra. Finally! Even if we didn’t walk all the way there first.

Love the video! Love that you are doing your own thing and not what is considered you should do. I’m a fan of the free standings too

Much appreciated. I have tried so many different things. Found my middle ground. Good night sleep is an absolute must, so my sleep system is where I “sacrifice” for weight. My big thing is keeping my gear small, and close to my back. As long as I do that, the weight distributes down through my legs quite well. Plus I’m 265lbs. 20lbs on my back is like wearing a winter coat lol.

Nice video. I use a ZPacks Duplex and there have been times when the ground was super hard. I had to use rocks to pound the stakes in and that makes me very nervous. One wrong hit and I could injure my hand or fingers. I don't know how else to get the stakes in though. I like the way you attach your tent to the pack. I use the Flextail pump that you have and I love it. It sure beats the pump sack I used to use but I still carry it just in case. Yup on the quilt/sleeping bag end. I've had the end of my quilt touch the wall of the tent at night and sometimes condensation does get on it but I've stayed warm because I use the EE synthetic booties at night. John from MI

All gear has its ups and downs, for sure. I think we all just have our own little quirks that will either allow us to look past curtain gear “issues” and not others haha. That flex tail pump is insane isn’t it?? It creates so much airflow with such a tiny impeller. It blows my mind. I also like that it’s got a metal housing and fittings made to fit a wide range of pads instead of relying on a universal fit. Set it and walk away. Can’t wait to get back out there!

Dont forget to get a "full" mosquito suit. You will thank yourself for it. Believe it or not it has "motivated" and "broken spirits" of many thru hikers at that point on the PCT.

I have heard that for sure haha. We will definitely be figuring out a “solution” for that before we step out there to be eaten alive.

What permits are you getting for your 2025 hike?
@AhonuiOutdoors

Because we aren’t sure how far we will be going, we went ahead and got “thru” permits. Which are really just for any trips longer than 500 miles along the Pct. It was the easiest way to make sure we had everything we needed in the Sierra. Instead of putting that we were starting at the Mexican boarder though, I put that we were starting at i10 where we left off last year. That way they don’t account for us down south.
