We lost our last Newfy almost 16 years ago. I still find Newfy hair when cleaning. Consider a pocket warmer that burns lighter fluid and a Heetsheet Emergency blanket for cold weather. For a couple, an old Army woobie would be a good idea to cover both of you on a very cold night. Carry water purification tablets. You two should share your cook set with a 1+ liter pot to cook a bigger meal. You could use a Nalgene bottle for a hot water bottle at night. Put it in a wool sock. I like the cup that slides onto the bottom of the Nalgene bottle. Historically, there is a snow storm in early April in the Smokies. In cold rain a poncho or umbrella will make you more comfortable because water running down the back of your rain jacket will suck heat out of you. Good video. Good Luck, Rick

Nice load out. On my 2016 thru for me at two pounds of food per day and two liters of water, the additional weight for four days was twelve pounds. I've noticed lots of people this year have underestimated the weight of consumables when presenting their prehike kits. I wish it were so light, but after a resupply heading up a gap, my pack was always over 30 lbs ;

I love your set up and look forward to following your journey. My wife and I are heading out next February/March and I'm pretty sure I'm bringing an ultra lite chair as well (I'll be 58). Can't wait to hear your thoughts about the chair as you hike the trail. Good luck!

Thanks! I think you'll be happy with the chair on the trail!

Good luck! Id like to know the full weight for everything you have laying there because that's your base weight, regardless of if it's in your pack or on you're body or in your hands, you are carrying that weight. Just seems like a lot more than 19lbs compared to my set up which is a lot less than yours and very similar gear. I'm right at 29lbs with 4 days food and 2 liters of water.

Great gear choices. Your gear choices show you are an experienced hiker, or someone who has done a lot of research. I have a lot of the same gear. I look forward to following your journey! Just curious in case I missed it in another video...what does Lt stand for? Lieutenant? Military veteran?
