I went to Crater Lake in August 2016 with a group of friends. I jumped into the freezing water. It was the most beautiful BLUE-EST lake I have ever seen in my entire life! The blue color makes it looks so surreal and almost fake. As if someone pour blue food coloring into the lake. This brought back so much good memories during that day. I tried to talk myself out of jumping off a 35 ft cliff down by the lake and it was one of the greatest thing I've done that I do not regret at all. My whole life changed after that moment. I'm glad you were able to captured the moment and I can relive that day again through this video. I plan to hike the PCT in 2022/2023!

You are so honest about the struggles as your hike goes on...but you are the most positive person I've watched on the PCT adventure. I can't describe how much I am enjoying your experience...even when I was young (I'm 78) I couldn't possibly have done what you are accomplishing! The memories you will have are priceless..God is good and you and Nick are so blessed. Stay safe and strong..hope you can squeeze in a zero day soon. Love you both💕

Love watching your KZbin videos of the PCT... it got all too real on March 10th because that’s the day I left Campo and started my PCT hike of 2020. It’s been all rain and cold wind for the first 5 days. I’m looking forward to when my days are as beautiful as your videos. Sunny and nice. I know not every day is going to be like that. But I sure did start at a rainy time for S. Cal. hahah (jokes on me)

Wow it's crazy to see this comment. You wrote it two days before the statewide shutdown order went into effect and the PCTA told people to get off the trail. What was your fate? I am re-watching this section of Mari's videos because next summer I'll hike OR/WA. I hiked all of CA last summer. Her videos inspired me in 2020 and I was following along when the pandemic hit and then it became even more exciting to watch her as she finished the videos. That was a crazy year. I made a plan to hike the PCT as soon as possible, and 2021 things were a little crazy for me, which meant that I left from Campo on May 17 2022. Finished in Ashland, with the plan to do OR/WA this summer - but alas, this year got crazy too, so next summer I will set out. I guess I only do the even years lol

Some absolutely beautiful lakes on that alternate route Mari, well worth the diversion. I hope you were able to fix the problem with your hip strap, certainly not what you wanted at that point of the journey. Btw, NZ go into full COVID-19 lock down Thursday midnight so I hope it doesn't upset any plans you may have. E noho ra.

Mari, life is full of coincidences. Two years ago my girlfriend and I took a 3-week trip to New Zealand (not nearly enough time to spend in that incredible place). During my trip planning research I found some of your videos. Well, there we were sitting in the airport in San Francisco on our layover to Auckland from Denver when a familiar looking couple came up and sat right across from us at the United gate. I couldn't quite place who it was until I pulled up one of your videos on my phone while we were waiting to board. Yep, it was you! Anyway, we didn't say anything because we didn't want to impose, but we boarded right behind you. If you remember, this was the day Cyclone Gita hit NZ. Now, two years later, I found Tip Tap's PCT vlog, saw you guys on there and found your own PCT series!! I'm watching, and really enjoying them now. Your content is always great. Keep adventuring! PS. I'm thinking of another trip to NZ in the next year. I have to go back.

I totally get how it can get more painful over time. It’s called repetitive stress injury. Make sure you massage/ roll your feet every night. And even your knees too. The feet and knees take a lot of the brunt of it when you walk those long miles everyday with your entire life/ home strapped to your back. But you are getting to the most beautiful part of the pct in my opinion, WA state. But after 2000 miles and as the months turn into fall, WA can be the most brutally cold and wet. But I’m looking forward to your posts on your further adventures. 😊

Hi. Can you speak to why you ended up choosing the tent that you did vs the zpacks duplex which is as roomy but significantly lighter? I notice that you do have a double walled tent. Did you ever just used the net tent out there and if so how often? On those really rainy stretches through Washington, did you have fewer condensation problems than those with single wall style tarp tents? I'm trying to decide whether carrying that extra weight is worth how much the net tent ends up being used on its own as well as how major a problem condensation is in very rainy climates in a duplex vs your double walled tarptent. I do live in northern Oregon after all, and after the PCT I'll continue to be camping in very rainy, buggy situations!

15:56 . . . Too many miles per day for too many days in a row. Eventually you get repetitive stress injuries that need more zero days.

Won't you allow yourself to take a couple of days off and just hang out by the lake? There's nothing that says you have to complete this walk within a certain amount of time, is there? You're both doing so well. There's no way you can quit. What an accomplishment this is going to be and those of us who would never do this kind of walk, will be with you all the way. My max walk was 50 miles from Pisa to Sienna. 22 miles the first day and I understand mind over matter when your feet and legs hurt. Routing for you all the way. Jane, Philadelphia,

Thanks Jane! The reason we couldn’t take a couple of days by a lake was because we wanted to get to Canada before the end of September and before it started snowing. So, we just didn’t have the time unfortunately. Wish we did!
