Congratulations on the PCT finish. I have been watching and made a playlist of both hikes, AT, PCT. Save your finishing gear and clothes, 40 years from now it will bring back forgotten memories . I still have my gear from the 1980s, North Face Cats Meow XL 10 deg bag 2lb, EPI Canister stove-like the small stoves today. And a 4 lb Kelty Tioga pack. Still have a New unused Sig Fuel bottle 1983, non anodized.

I'm a mom of three (now adult) children who were all top students. I can tell you from experience that what these boys learned on the trail by far exceeds anything they would be learning at school. To be a successful adult, they need life skills--all well taught on the trail. Communication, decision making, risk taking, integrity, determination, bouncing back from failures, kindness, empathy, humility. I'm sure they are good students when they aren't hiking, so not meaning to diminish that at all but the experience of the PCT has surely prepared these boys for bright futures. My question is what do they all want to do when they "grow up"? Loved this episode--left me in tears! You are all awesome!

Well, I watched, and liked, every video of the PCT journey without a comment, but it would be rude to fail now. Most impressive. An inspiration. Have some chicken in the dehydrator right now, in fact. Think I used too much garlic in the marinade. Lucky boys to have a mom like that, lucky mom to have sons like that. Very well done indeed. See you on the trail, Field Trip.

I teared up at the end of this video ... and I really can't tell you why ... but I think that even more than finishng the trail there's something about coming home that really tugs at the root of my heart. I've lived "away from home" over here in Japan about 35 years -- I'm originally from Northern California and had family who lived in the Owens Valley at the bottom of the Sierran Eastern Escarpment, so I spent a lot of time during my youth near many of the places you visited. In some ways watching your videos was a homecomimg for me. I miss California, and I understand the importance of "going home." In some ways, the most important part of any journey is the homecoming. As Sir Edmund Hillary (sp??) once said, you can't say you climbed a mountain until you successfully come back down to tell about it. So homecomings for me are in some ways the most important part of the journey, and for the first time in your amazing trek, I teared up. I hope that the lessons learnt on this adventure will serve the boys well for a lifetime. How they use those lessons from now on throughout their lives will ultimately determine just how valuable this trek has been. In that sense, this journey and it's deeper value will never end. And finally, to you Mom, and to Dad as well, my hat is off. You have undertaken a monumental responsibility with this oddyssey that many parents cannot even begin to fathom. Thank you for all of the additional time and effort you took so that we could come along with you. Prayers arising for the ongoing health and happiness of The Field Trip, Richard Curtis Takaoka, Japan

Tears in my eyes too! THAT! WAS! AN! AMAZING! JOURNEY! Thanks for documenting your trip and sharing it with us. I've been a fan since you started the AT. Congrats. Questions: 1. The level of difficulty seemed to go up the more north you went, especially when you got to Washington... is that true? 2. Even through the most difficult times, your end goal never seemed to waiver. Was there ever a discussion on throwing in the towel? 3. I was surprised you didn't have microspikes and a ice axe in your snowy sections. Did you ever feel unsafe crossing the snow fields? 4. Any plans for the CDT? (just as everyone else here has asked!)

Look forward to hearing your Q and A. I guess one question, which may be revealed sometime is what would you like to do in the future? Perhaps there's a variety of hiking interests. Sometimes folks in who love the outdoors, pursue outdoor vocations. Any of the guys want to work in forestry/National Parks, or what are developing vocational interests?

How amazing is that, thank you for sharing your adventure along the PCT! You have got to be the coolest mom I know, to take your kids on such a great journey, and to give them the experiences of a life time. The boys should be very proud of what they have accomplished, being that I don't know too many kids that have done what your boys have done....talk about bragging rights! You guys have done the AT, and the PCT, will you be doing more? As far as Q&A: Was there ever a moment(s) during the journey when, maybe individually, or as a group, that you felt like you were just done with it, and wanted to quit? And, how did you get passed that moment? It may be different for each one of you, but, what was the biggest highlight of the hike, and the lowest highlight (lowlight?) of the hike? If they re-open the section you didn't get to do from Bend, OR to Mt Hood, OR, will you be coming back to complete that section? Love you guys, hope to meet you some day....God bless!!

I have loved following your family. Mrs. Frizzle, you have a future as a documentary film maker ahead of you, starting with your stellar work on the Mt. Whitney trek. 1) When do you start the CDT? 2) Did you as Mom ever face a mutiny (LOL)? 3) I didn't understand your unwillingness to use mosquito repellent. 4) And, of course, which was your favorite thru-hike?

I've been a subscriber since day one when you all walked through that gate at the AT. I can't even express how much I enjoyed your videos on both the AT and PCT. Mom, you filmed it so well, I felt like I was there with you and the views were just amazing. I do have a question. So much respect for all of you guys. I’m wondering what everyone else is wondering…cdt 2023? And also..since your oldest is reaching that “adult” age or 18, does he plan to hike any long trails alone? I’m a Mom of 3 sons and although we’ve hiked and kayaked with our kids their entire lives, when they started hiking and camping in the backcountry alone it worried me to death lol. If you guys had to pick a long trail again, between the PCT and the AT which would you choose?
@malcolmkogut Жыл бұрын
Mom, how have you changed and was it because you were hiking with the boys or the trail? In the future, I would like to see at least two of the boys also film and narrate the trail then upload all three perspectives at the same time. Quicksand and Hawk did that briefly and it was very cool. In general, who mostly took point and who had the six?
@thefieldtrip Жыл бұрын
That would be really cool! I've done a similar thing with writing - to see/hear the different perspectives. It would be fun with video.
