In 2023, in spite of record shattering snowfall in the Sierra mountains of California, I am undertaking a thru-hike attempt of the Pacific Crest Trail in an effort to complete my Triple Crown! Follow along as I see just how far the trail will let me go!
Gaia GPS route of this day (track did not record properly, so I recreated the route for record):

Stehekin was my favorite trail town on the PCT even if super touristy. Fantastic location and basically without cars.

And it’s funny to look at the registration on the cars that are there. Most have been expired for a decade. 😂

Wondered about the hitchhiking plan, but seemed pointless to comment when the videos are over a week behind real time - and it's always possible to get lucky.

Stehekin looked like a charming place, good food, great people - all the signs of being a vortex, as you said! I could see how it would be hard to leave -and so tempting to take the 4.5 mile (closed) section. I’m glad you did what you do, in making your decisions.

Kinda liked the mixed up video today. Getting so close and it has been fun traveling with you. My kids are pretty close to High Bridge (9/19) we can't wait to see them home in NH.

The bakery is devine. Such a peaceful place in the morning before the wind comes up. Interested to see this alternate. It always amazes me the things I notice on the roads I normally drive a million times when I slow down to walk them. Good on you for your connected steps with good conscience.

Your previous comments about hitching in Stehekin did, I must admit, make me ckuckle. It indicated that you really were not prepared for what you would find when you unwittingly stumbled into Shangri-La. No apology required for your video's ending. It was not jolting. Indeed, it was rather refreshing. Most people feel some sense of confusion when they struggle to extricate themselves from paradise. It seems to be part of the human condition.

Yes, I certainly hadn't realized the situation in Stehekin! It was a lovely surprise though, and worked out quite nicely all around!!

9:47 The problem is that the detour is ridiculously long and doesn't even make any sense. But the views so far are spectacular. The ones not hiking the full detour route are missing out.

@@travelinbeat Haha, if you are talking about that War Creek Trail you took on your last video, that is exactly what I was talking about when I said the detour is ridiculously long and makes no sense. Anyone could look at the topo maps and come up with a hundred shortcuts to shave miles off the official detour map and still stay out of the fire closure areas. Which makes me wonder, who comes up with the official detours? They clearly don't give a lot of thought process to coming up with the shortest detour. I don't know, maybe their goal is to keep hikers as far away from the fires as humanly possible. If that's the case, they do a good job of it.

Your video didn’t seem mixed up at all. As of Sept 20th, one website states that the airplane lake fire is still active and close to the PCT. Probably a good move to take the reroute. Man, those views where you’re at are just amazing. I will have to try to remember not to try to resupply in Stehekin. Sound very expensive…but I will be going there for that giant cinnamon roll!!
@travelinbeat
@travelinbeat Жыл бұрын
Yes resupplying in Stehekin would be very, very difficult and expensive. It's easy to send a box to the PO and if you expect to arrive on a weekend, they'll happily leave it in the lobby for you, which is open 24/7

It might be expensive because they pay shipping to get to Chelan, then pay more shipping to get it transported for the last 50 miles on a private boat. It cannot be cheap. There is a barge that can bring supplies too, including gas.
@MaxZomboni
@MaxZomboni Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm sure that is their excuse. But I think the main reason is that it's a tourist trap. I'm pretty sure the locals don't have to pay those prices.
@travelinbeat
@travelinbeat Жыл бұрын
Definitely it's expensive, and likely there's a little opportunism, but it's still worth the time and money to visit in my opinion (just bring your own everything!)

Super stunning views. Vortex? Sign me up! Soooo happy that, as I predicted, the mystery package made it to Stehekin! Fun to see more of the schoolhouse too. Thanks again for the beautiful videos. I didn't mind the confusing nature of your day. Sometime it beez that way, huh?!

#BeatAma , where do us get your music? If the music u use is copyrighted, and for example , next month u stop paying the subscription for the copyrighted music, will all the videos u have created with copyrighted music still remain on KZbin or Instagram & all these videos will continue to be viewed for an unlimited time into the future? (((Kinda a wordy question, I hope u get my point / question)))
@MaxZomboni

I think Beat has connections for that. A lot of his music is custom written for him.

Oh man I wish my music was custom written!! Just that one song by Matt Pryor is custom (my "theme song," if you will). I'll talk about music in the Q&A, thanks for the question!
