The music has an incredible riff that plays off the main theme of the UFOs in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. So chill.

Best song of all John Z’s videos. This has to become a standalone song/video so I can just hit repeat on it and hit my own big miles. John, what do you listen to while you hike? Stuff like this, or do you avoid podcasts, music while you hike? I basically avoid all electronics while hiking so I can let nature sink in and expose myself to the anxiety of the world and see if I can handle it. But damn… with this song on repeat I think I could walk all day for months on end.

Hey John Z - been really enjoying a bunch of your videos lately. I'm a hiker who's been gearing up (well gearing down, actually) for section hikes, with the long term goal of thru hiking (most likely the GDT as I'm from Vancouver, BC). It may seem like a dumb question, but for stream/creek crossings, do you guys usually just wear non GTX trail runners, ford the streams/creeks, and hike wet after? Dry them out as best you can at night, and switch socks in the morning type thing? Any help planning that out would be helpful. What's your strategy? And is that a Montbell Peak shell or Versalite in the vid, and how do you like it? Many thanks from an aspiring section/thru hiker.

The best time to go to the sierra is a summer after a heavy winter snowpack. Went there 5 years ago after severe drought pretty bland. Gotta go after a big snow year.

Amazing....what time of year was this? Did JMT mid September but no real snow...

I have never been there but truly the Sierra's are an amazing place. As always your video locations let see where we might ourselves venture, entertaining, you might have left off what looks like a nature calling shot near the end of the video through :). Peace, maybe you'll zip past me some day.

Do you hammock camp? If you do, what brought you into it, and if you don't why don't you and would you consider it?
@JohnZahorian7 жыл бұрын
used to when i did a lot of bicycle touring. they had lots of love from people on crazyguyonabike.com back in the day. ditched it primarily for weight savings. (was super comfy tho)

Thank you for answering so quickly! Also, do you prefer bike touring or hiking, and which would you recommend for a month long trip during a gap year between high school and college?

What were the average temps in Sierra's during June? Just wondering if I do a JMT with my husband and 12yo summer 2017/2018 if I should wait til July. I'm a wuss when it comes to the cold.
@JohnZahorian7 жыл бұрын
+Geretta Martin hard to say. Not too cold. Daytime temps are generally pretty nice. In June there will be decent snow remaining and July that is less of a concern

How do you keep your footage steady? I always end up with super shaky stuff when I hike and record at the same time. Any particular technique?
@JohnZahorian7 жыл бұрын
watch how people move when they use a glidecam. but then do it without one. a healthy amount of bend at the knees, lots of smooth steps focused on keeping the torso motion steady
