By the way, if you have to melt snow it's better if you still have some liquid water. Heat some of that in your pot, then slowly add snow a little at a time letting it melt completely each time. Eventually the pot will be full of liquid. Repeat the process for more water. This is faster and uses less energy than trying to melt a pot of snow. It's related to the heat capacity of liquid water and the heat of fusion (melting) of ice.

oh bummer it looks like there is still some snow and sketchy scary parts. i can understand people skipping this section because of the snow and sheer drop offs and blowdown jenga all day. yikes
