My mom also had Alzheimer’s and yes, it is the worst disease besides cancer. Thank you for donating your funds to help others. You guys are awesome! 😁

Thank you for sharing all of this. My 1st backing trip at the young age of 52, I carried 3 liters of water to go 4 miles and the trail followed a river. I also strapped hiking poles to my pack because I knew I “needed” them but didn’t use them, they were not needed for my 5lb freestanding tent. 8:06 Now 3 grand later…. :)

It was great running into you 3 so many times along the trail. Habanero and Zone are continuing the Oregon section this year. I had so many perfect National Geographic moments on the PCT. Hope your return trip is safe and astonishing.

Thank you for this Q&A series, guys. No need to apologize; they collectively almost don't seem long enough. They really provides background and context to those months of watching you on the PCT last year. I'm looking forward to seeing videos out on the PCT this summer...Happy Trails!!

Having eagerly waited for each drop of your initial hike I’ll be doing the same this fall. Great fun you add to your accomplishments. My granddaughter came off PCT trail at Kennedy Meadow in 2022 due to an injury and said she’d go back. She politely rolled her eyes when I reported your 2023 progress..in detail. She’s coming up on Tehachapi now in 2024…and in texting with me has inquired, ‘Grammy, where did your codgers go when they flipped to go around the deeper Sierra snow’. Ha Ha ! Happy trails & safe journeys to all of you that go out to touch the physical world.

Thank you for doing the Q&A! I watched them as you put them out, great info! I have watched the Oregon section of the PCT too many times to mention. You inspired me and my plan is for Oregon and maybe a portion of Washington this year. It depends on fires and how well this 68 year old body holds up :-) Thank you for all information you have shared and the inspiration! Happy Trails!

I hope when you get back out there in August that there's a trail to hike in, and no wildfires 🤞

This is great, thank you. If it is any help, David, I was able to hike the JMT in 2022 with a light pack. I got past my fear of getting cold. I hiked SOBO starting June 12 in Yosemite, Lyell canyon TH. The snowpack was low that year and I managed without microspikes. You should be able to do that this August, too. For sleeping I have learned to manage without a second set of clothing or any base layers. I sleep in my hiking clothes and I climb into the sleeping bag damp, sometimes but usually not. Perfectly dry after an hour in the sack. I use a Zpacks flex 20 bag and a Nemo insulated Tensor with a Zpacks down hood. One night was down in the teens and I still got some sleep. Your experience may be different, but it works comfortably for me down to freezing. Pack weight for the stretch between Kearsarge Pass and Kennedy Meadow south was 20-1/2 lb including the bear canister. Each year I get older and consequently attempt to get the pack weight down a little more. It was great to meet you and No Filter last summer. Best wishes for this year. Queasy Rider

I am 72 and still backpacking and continue to be inspired by you guys. I finished section hiking the PCT in 2010--after starting in 1975. The trail doesn't go anywhere, so why not do sections at the optimal times?

Hi Codgers. Just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed your CDT series and just started to watch your AT videos. Glad to know my viewing is contributing to your charity. At your encouragement, I donated to the Alzheimer’s Association because my wife’s family lost their mom to dementia so thanks for the encouragement. Also watching you two has encouraged the soon to be 62 yo to seriously contemplate an AT thru hike when i retire at 65. I also really enjoyed your daily reviews which helped understand the logic you used to do what you did each day and your plan for the next day. One question, i see you used a GoPro at the start of the AT, did you continue to use it or not and if so, why? Sorry to ramble.

Thanks so much for supporting the Alz organization. It means a lot to me. We didn't use a go pro during our hike so not sure what to say on that. But, we've often thought we could capture a lot more stunning material if we had a wearable camera or bodycam. We may try that at some point. Good luck with your adventures! Happy Trails!

Hey Codgers! I can't wait for your Sierra hike this summer. I'm sure you know that the Reds Meadow Rd will be closed into Mammoth every Mon-Thurs from June7 to Sept15. There are shortcuts over Dead Man's Pass and Mammoth Pass. I'm sure all of those issues will be well known before you get there. Happy Trails!

Question: Probably more for Rumbles…with a single wall tent, and condensation, if you ran into multiple days of rain where you can’t dry your sleeping bag/quilt during the day, what was your strategy for getting your gear dry, especially your quilt?

I would love to hike but there's no way I would complete that, anyway, I watched several people on the PCT last year. Most of them didn't make it... One of them got off trail like you guys did but came back in Northern California and then quit in Washington... I learned so much from you guys, I'm definitely interested in your water filters that you used, I went to the store the other day and there's so many different ones. I'm not even sure which ones work the best, they show them actually drinking through a straw of the filter out of a stream, can you guys talk more about your water filtering or maybe you already did?... Also, did you get any gastrointestinal issues from the water? Thank you very much! You guys were the most entertaining and I'm glad you made it and had fun. I'll follow you when you get back on trail.

I’m a little late to these Q&A’s (did watch them though). Stupid algorithm didn’t link us up very fast. Have you heard anything from any of the Tramily? I guess also, have you reached out to any? Maybe after these videos there will be something in your in basket. I’ve enjoyed both your through hikes…

Did you bring a chair ? If not did you regret it. Mine is 1lb and has become a necessity for me as an old guy. My plan is like Marmalade and do the pct over 5 years to protect the marriage. 😅

I have a 1lb chair and take it sometimes on short section hikes but not long hikes. I look for logs and rocks or just sit on my but pad. At 67 it is a little comical for me getting in and out of the chair. But I’ve learned to keep a trekking pole nearby for the assist. 😂
