Enjoyed watching the trip. Thanks for the gear reviews! i've some of the Topo's ready to be cycled in and want to see how many miles before they delaminate on me. I'm currently using the Danner 2650 Campo, really comfortable but I need a bit more ankle support so might purchase the Salomon's.

I did use deet bug spray when the little buggers got too pesty. But mainly, I'd just try to keep moving rather than putting on spray. And going through my gear did spur the desire to get back out on the trail for a few days. Thanks for watching.

I did use crocs for camp and water crossings. Later, I would just walk through the water in my trail runners when I wore them because they were fast drying. The down booties I only used in my tent.

Thanks a bunch for all these tips. Here's my chance to give back. Hope you find it useful. I have both the Ursack and the BV 500 (as well as the 450). I used the BV for the Shipwreck Coast (required). They do add some weight. I relied on the prepackaged 2 serving dried meals and was all I can do to get 3 days of provisions along wih snacks. For my Hart's Pass trip in September, I relied on the same prepackaged meals (repackaged in Ziplocks) and was all I could do to get 5 days of provisions and no room for snacks in my Ursack Almitey. Neither requires hanging. The Ursacks are really easy to hang once you figure out the slipknot. There's a KZbin video for the slipknot and not the standard Ursack instructions. Once again, hope this helps and keep the great tips coming.

Wish all thru hikers would do both a pre and post hike gear episode so weez know what NOT to buy. Ya'll are the most entertaining pair I've ever followed and deserve a prize! Your shoe show was great! About the only thing left about REI that is good is their return policy. They've become corporatized. In '38 they catered to mountaineers and now they cater to weekend weenies.

Hey No Filter, My wife and I really enjoyed your PCT trip this year. What an interesting journey with the skipping and the fire, not to mention the snow. Unbelievable year, but you guys persevered, with smiles on your faces. One question, what happened to the solar panel recharging outfit Rumbles was using? Your theme music will be forever in my head, as a positive ear worm however. Thanks, God bless you guys in your future hikes.

Love your idea of using the bottle coupler and bottle funnel for your protein and recovery mixes. I’m going to adopt that system after struggling with getting my mixes in a bottle. Thanks for sharing!

Nice! What kind of rain mitts did you have? I think you mentioned them, but not what brand. Curious if they soaked through?

I used the REI mitts. My experience with those (especially on the AT) was your hands will eventually get pretty wet if it is anything other than a quick pop up shower. I can't see how any rain mitts I've seen would keep me dry over the long haul. If it is warm enough, the rain mitts are fine by themselves because once my hands were wet, the mitts helped keep my hands warm which is key. If it was really cold and wet, my mitts were large enough to go over my fleece gloves which, when combined with mitts, would keep my hands warm enough even if they got wet.

Im getting mitts. A few seasons ago I made the mistake of getting REI “waterproof” gloves and after a snowshoe backpack trip last year (I live in the Sierra so that was the only option for awhile) I’m lucky I still have hands. Now I know that warmth (fleece) + dry (mitts) is key.

It was great to meet you guys at PCT Days. Hope you don't me picking your brains a moment. I used Farout on a backpacking trip and the battery went from 93% down to 68% in just a few hours. Did you guys experience similar battery drain with Farout? I kept Farout running in hopes of recording the day's track. Thanks in advance.

Thx! We would only turn the GPS when we needed to check location/mileage , etc. We did not leave it on long because it did drain the battery quickly.

How much did your pack weigh in the cold vs in the warm?

The pack base weight leaving Kennedy Meadows with cold gear, axe, crampons, etc. was probably around 22 lbs (no food but everything else including phone). Base weight without food for the warmer weather was around 15.5. It was even lower on the AT because I just used a bag liner to sleep in the last month.

The watch I wore I wouldn't recommend. It was clunky but did the job.

You have to tell them that you also need to hike with Hazel because she can pick up everything you drop from your backpack on the trail😆
