I’ve also realized, while backpacking, that where you go to sleep & where you wake up, really impacts the day..

I love snow. I'm sad you hate it so much but I understand. I'd love to see snow on the ground in July 🤣

Other hikers I have seen carry ice axes and microspikes. They learn how to self arrest with the ax if thy slip. They stick together and cross as a group so no one goes it alone. I suspect snow is going to be a part of your journey to the finish. Best to gear up and learn how to deal with it. You are experiencing personal growth with this one. I have confidence in you. You CAN do it!

It's great to see that Honey Bee escaped the hive of civilization and made it back to the trail (chauffeured by Uncle Sam on July 4th, no less)! And the rewards for returning were beautiful weather and a fantastic campsite. If I remember correctly from your AT intro video, you are/were an accountant. What do you think about your calculation of sending your microspikes home because you don't want to hike in the snow? Isn't there still a positive cost/benefit ratio if you have them sent back to you? They don't weigh that much, do they? I would think that the extra weight would be a great ROI considering that it's highly probable you will be encountering more snow, like it or not. Sorry for the interrogation -- it's meant to be in a humorous (and hopefully helpful) spirit. 😉

Snow is a part of higher elevation hiking. Please for your own safety never attempt the CDT. I wish you luck on the rest of the trail you are doing 😉.👍🏼

I know it was above normal temps up there in mid-July from what saw on the news, a heat wave even, but don’t know what has transpired between now and then since it’s a three week lag. Daylight’s gonna start shortening though soon in real time, if it were me I would have forged through with the first push or abandoned it outright if didn’t like what saw, takin’ a week off like that is…seeing wildfires in Boise and Oregon on the CBS Evening News with Laura O’Donnell, 07/24, trail might be west of that. Dub trail dub.

Can I ask.. if you didn't want to hike in the snow... why did you start up north? Why didn't you start in Mexico?
@Galiuros3 ай бұрын
Not to speak for Jessie, but the temperature in Campo, California (a couple of miles north of the Mexican border) was 100F on June 30th. That is a bit warm. On July 8th it will be 108. That's desert with little or no vegetation. Twas a wise decision to hike in the north this time of the year.

Starting in Campo in June is a good way to get cooked medium rare and left for the coyotes.

Which is why people start in March and April going north. She started south in July after how many zero days? So many north bound hikers are finishing past her making videos without stopping. Hard to believe she completed the AT when she is talking about doing a drive around Washington.

Is anyone using trail names on the PCT, or are you just Jessie over there?

Consider flip flopping then. The trail is long with many options. We bend to nature-she doesn't bend to us. Just find a way to make progress. There is no shame.
@ianmiddleton87933 ай бұрын
You sent home your microspikes? Seriously??? The PCT is not the AT; it travels thru a lot of High Alpine environment. From your previous comments you're not too confident in those places. How are you going to fare crossing Mather and Forrester later on? Time to quickly upgrage your equipment and skillset. The fact you need others' footsteps in the snow to feel happy about crossing slopes should tell you something, surely?
@NeilSutherlandME2 ай бұрын
Mather and Forrester will be crossed in ease since she will be there in September lol. This shows how limited your judgment is. Let her learn.
