Great mod for a turbo MX, I had constant leaks from all over the shop on my engine, binning it and getting a catch can stopped the leaks! I just wish that i knew this A: before i turbo'd the car, B: before replacing seals endlessly!

I didnt even notice it was powder coat when in the car, maybe I will chrome coat one of mine. drilling andtapping both sides holes 1/2 inch NPT and using a 1/2"npt to AN fitting works well too if if its a valve cover you cant/dont want to recoat
@Project3802 жыл бұрын
yeah ive seen a few other people do this but because my valve cover had a deep scratch in it i wanted to re coat it anyways so i thought i may as well weld it

I really like the way this sep up looks is it recommended for me to do this in my nb2 boosted doing 240hp because I heard is not necessary to do a set up like this for your typical 250hp miata 🤔
@Project3802 ай бұрын
its not needed for 250 ish but something to consider if you go for big boost

heat in the catch can is a good thing as long as the components can handle the heat as well. it will help keep the oil hot enough to boil off the moisture, more important if you were returning caught oil to the sump, but shouldn't hurt anything to be hot.
@Project3802 жыл бұрын
now this i didn't realize, thank you
@MrManBuzz7 ай бұрын
Given what usually ends up in a catch can, I wouldn't want that crap going back into the oil. It's a quick way of contaminating your oil.

My Catch can has an inlet and outlet port + small filter on top, is there any difference which pipe I’m connecting to which port?
@Project3807 ай бұрын
unless it has a one way valve it wont matter

Good vid, I noticed at my first drift day in my boosted mx5 Saturday, the car ran fine in general but when it got hot after 3-4min session of drifting that idling afterwards it would smoke for a good 30 seconfd and smelt/looked oily. I think it was because on boost it couldn't get rid of the crankcase pressure then on idle the vacuum was sucking in any puddled oil and vapour that was sat in the rocker cover. Mine is still running stock pcv with the open side breather running to the turbo intake. Interested to see how yours gets on with this set up, I still think the vacuum abilities of the engine below boost and on idle etc are handy so not 100% on venting just to atmosphere but may try it like yourself and see if it makes a difference 👍

As soon as it actually runs ill let you know 🤣. Thanks mate
@rowanhealy8 ай бұрын
Hey man, good video, all very clear. I had read the huge thread on turbo miata about catch cans, I was under the impression that you should have a vacuum involved, is it the case that with the forced induction you simply cannot get a vacuum any more?
@Project3808 ай бұрын
Yeah in an NA situation a vacuum will help massively. But in forced induction it's not really required

Hey thanks for the video! Hope things are well. Wondering if this is something I want to consider doing on my supercharged v8?
@Project380 Жыл бұрын
All good thank you. i think any car with added boost should have some sort of breathing system to stop excess pressure build up in the engine

Is there a way for me to relocate a Rev9 catch can where the windshield wiper fluid is?
@Project38011 ай бұрын
im not too sure, i belive rev9 is more of a usa thing. but i cant see why not as long as it can vent ok

Is there a performance reason for expanding the pcv diameter when the car is boosted? I have catch cans on my boosted mx5 but with standards pcv valves.
@Project3802 жыл бұрын
if you still have the standard pcv valve then there is no benefit, if you increase the hole size but not the pcv diameter then there is still the same restriction. hopefully the way ive done it then there should be no restrictions and better gas flow
@submariner144 Жыл бұрын
hello sir, sorry i'm not a native English speaker so i'm not quiet understand. So basically you're just deleted the PVC, make bigger hole for "breathing" and attached it to the oil catch can right? but how was the intake manifold hole (for the PCV hose)? did you just plug it with something?
@Project380 Жыл бұрын
hi there. yes that is correct. im using a skunk2 inlet manifold so i do not have that hole for that pipe, but in the standard intake you can either block it or run a second catch can, so it runs from the cam cover to catch can and then from catch can to intake manifold but make sure there is no breather filter in it or else the car will not idle
@submariner144 Жыл бұрын
@@Project380 does the crankcase fume / blowback gases can get out with that setup? Since there is no vacuum
@andreasanastasakis51062 жыл бұрын
Love the progress mate, keep it up 🔥, I guess you shooting for over 300+ whp with this set up (don't know what turbo you are running), would you say that it would be safe to run a 323 turbo pcv valve on a 200-240 1.6 ?
