Roy Wulf was delighted to participate in the magnificent 160th Anniversary Reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg hosted by the Patriots of the Civil War Association (PCWA) held June 22 - June 25, 2023 in Gettysburg, PA. This video features some highlights from that event.
Special thanks for permission to use photographs and video go out to the following individuals ...
Noel Kline (www.noelkline.com), Jim Stiehl (stiehlphotography.zenfolio.com), and Scott Criss. Additional music in this video was provided by the 46th Pennsylvania Brass Band (the Logan Guard) under the direction of Tracey Collins. Thanks also to Leo Landry and to the Green Phantom of Gettysburg.

Yes, you have heard correctly. Reenacting is a wonderful hobby. It combines history, enjoying the outdoors, and making friends. In our case, we do a lot with historical music too. There is a bit of an initial investment in order to get outfitted in a uniform, but units sometimes have loaner uniform parts and gear. My family is involved in Civil War and Revolutionary War reenacting (and a bit of other things too, as you will see from the videos on this channel). If you are interested at all in this hobby, please look into it further, and I'll be happy to answer questions for you also! :)

Love your summary of the leadership at Gettysburg, lol. I've been binging your videos and I've got a question for you :) I'm a new bugler(literally it arrived in the mail *today,* and I got a bugle cord. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to tie it on right, and there aren't many great sources for it. Could you perhaps consider doing a video on how you tie your bugle cord, and where you advise getting them from? It might be helpful to future buglers

So glad that you enjoyed the video. Well, as far as your request, your wish is my command! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3mrpmiHlpmbsMk That's a very rough draft video of how to tie on a bugle cord. The video is unlisted rather than in public because I will make a better version later. As it so happens, making a video like you requested has been on my to-do list! Let me know if you were able to follow my instructions can get your bugle cord attached. I can make a better video later where I tie the cord on from scratch, but I'm worried about messing up how I have mine set up now, and I need to use my bugle in the coming weeks. Good luck with your bugling! I will be posting more bugle videos as I get the chance. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

SEMPER FI! Roy Wulf your uniforms are beyond #AWESOME! Where did you get or MAKE Them? Fascinating! Would you consider doing videos to explain each uniform and show what and how long it took to get dressed for each different war? I know for the most part the UNION issued uniform to their troops but did the CSA ever manufacture uniform or there the uniforms of the South all hand made in private homes? Did the South ever issue standardized cloths or equipment? An Historian here on KZbin did videos about getting dressed in the Middle Ages covering from Peasants to Nobles, Knights and Kings as well as Monks, Priests, Bishops, Cardinals to the Pope! Hundreds of people viewed the videos and had nothing but positive comments! ROY, I was thinking it might be a great topic for some of your AWESOME videos as well! Just a suggestion my young friend! God Bless Always and May he Keep you and Yours Safe from All Harm! #LYBM

I like your suggestion! Yes, I would certainly consider doing that. There is no lack of topics that could be covered in videos, and uniforms is one of them. Uniforms in the Civil War would actually be the easiest to describe as there is more available for sale for Civil War reenacting than for any other kind of reenacting. I have plans for more videos (and some are partially completed), but I just need to find the time to film and edit them. School keeps me busy! However, I'll get more posted in the not too distant future! God Bless You Too!

I'd highly urge you to get a pair of good quality pair of period suspenders, as the ones you wore in this video are inaccurate. Aside from that, your overall impression is pretty good.
@mr.roywulf

Yes, I agree. I bought my suspenders at a sutler, but I didn't realize that they were not accurate. A new pair are on my to-buy list! Tell me, is there a particular maker of suspenders that you would recommend?

The reenactment of war is so weird to me.
@mr.roywulf
@mr.roywulf 11 ай бұрын
Yes, I know what you mean, but surprisingly it can also have a certain beneficial effect. It can be helpful to remember that people were capable of standing up in long rows and acting like mutual firing squads, just slaughtering each other in huge numbers. Human beings actually did this to one another in the Civil War. Remembering this terrible situation can help to remind us how terrible and tragic it really was, and that we don't want this to happen again. As the saying goes, "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it!"

I do know your just a messin around, but y'all where had some pretty pisspoor management going on at the top there. Ain't hardly been a commander since that could lead an army better then Lee. If Jackson hadn't been killed in '62 and Stuart had gotten his arse back where it belonged, there's a very likely chance the Rebels win the day at Gettysburg. If you had thrown Jackson in with his men at Little Round Top, they'd definitely have taken the hill. They where close as it was, before the 20ths bayonet charge out of desperation for ammo.
@mr.roywulf

My comments were totally sarcastic and not intended to be taken seriously. "Throughout the war, the Union was blessed with flawless commanders without exception." 😉 The Confederate commanders ran circles around the Federal commanders for much of the war, and although Lee lost at Gettysburg, he came very near to winning on the first two days. I was just adding some humor in the video truly. I agree with you!
@Zarastro54
@Zarastro54 11 ай бұрын
Lee was a fine tactician, but a subpar strategist. While Lee was wiping out the carousel of Union commanders in the East, Grant was cleaning house in the West, and once Grant got a hold of Lee, he showed how to win a WAR.
@mr.roywulf

@@Zarastro54 Lee and Jackson were certainly aided by the long list of slow, timid, and uncertain Federal commanders in the East.

@@Wake-up90 Oh, I thought that maybe I looked AI-generated or something! LOL. The video was unscripted, but I thought up things to say before I filmed each segment. I'm not always smooth talking in front of a camera, but I manage to get a good take on the fourth or fifth attempt. The one scripted thing was repeating Chamberlain's speech from the film 'Gods and Generals'.
