A hallmark of Parkinson’s disease is the loss of dopamine production and dysfunction of the basal ganglia. Prof. Rich Ivry will provide an overview of basal ganglia function with a focus on how Parkinson’s disease impacts not only motor function but also cognition. Following this, members of his Cognition and Action lab will discuss on-going research projects being conducted in the lab that look at the interaction between movement and cognition. This research not only identifies changes in behavior related to basal ganglia function but also highlights instances where behavior remains unchanged with Parkinson’s disease.
